Product Manager And Developer And Co-Founder
Research Assistant
As stated in my contract, I will be responsible for the duties of a Research Assistant building quantitative spatial equilibrium model. 10-20 hours weekly paid by hoursBefore I even began my role,I developed and implemented algorithms to match university names from H1B visa data to their canonical forms, addressing edge cases like "University of Pennsylvania" vs. "Pennsylvania State University." Using Python and fuzzywuzzy, I preprocess data and apply both exact and fuzzy matching techniques as a parallel project assigned by the professor Samsun Knight.Building on this, I will focus on estimating a quantitative spatial equilibrium model using detailed mobility and commuting flows data. This involves analyzing spatial economics to understand and predict economic patterns and outcomes. This role enhances my data analysis, problem-solving, and coding skills while contributing significantly to groundbreaking research in spatial economics. This research is with Professor Samsun Knight.

Co-President Of Physics Club And Homework Club
Physics Clubposition: co-leaderDuration: grade 12Hours spent per week: 3hWeeks per year: 35 weeksShort description: Biweekly meetings on Thursdays with fun experiments and explanations for the phenomena afterward to learn physics by doing. To promote our club, I created and managed the club's Instagram account and ms team account. Then, I asked Zoey, an executive, to create posters so we can promote our club. In the meanwhile, I recorded videos during each meeting to gather more promotional materials. Then, I asked Jerry, my friend, who takes computer lessons, to create a website (jerryphuang545.wixsite.com/rhsphysicsclub) for our club as his project. With the promotion ready, we had to set up the actual meetings. To get us all going, I delegated each executive task. In the end, we decided that since our club is biweekly, the first week Alex, the other leader, and Zoey come up with an experiment for our meeting. Then, we test the experiment together. I research the experiment and post sneak peeks on Instagram and ms Team to promote our meetings. Additionally, I go to science classes to promote our club with sneak peeks. At the end of the meeting, I present the physics behind the experiment.Homework Clubposition: leaderDuration: grade 12Hours spent per week: 1hWeeks per year: 20 weeksShort description: At the beginning of grade 12 year, Alex and I became the leaders of the homework club. The club helps people with homework support every week Wednesday after school. The club is a great place to get academic support. Alex and I promoted the club with the school announcement. Additionally, we went to classes to promote our club to ask if they have an upcoming exam and need academic support. Members sign up for the attendance sheet either as a tutor or a tutee.
Volunteer
I volunteered at political parties, COVID-19 and BC flood fundraisers, dress sales, night markets, educational organizations, and lectures. Working in different environments constantly, I was highly clueless at first. However, I adapted by asking for feedback and continuously self-reflect. My adaptability persistently improved as I moved from one environment to another. Being an online tutor for GUM Learning Association had fewer uncertainties, but they required immense consistency and responsibility which unconsciously developed my responsibility. With responsibility and adaptability, I found two jobs, as a cashier at Superstore and as a peer tutor. I was able to feel how tutors and cashiers felt and began to put myself in others' shoes more. Thus, the diverse experience taught me to recognize different perspectives and developed a strong sense of empathy.Responsibility, adaptability, and empathy allowed me to initiate my Tutoring organization StingEducation which persistently enhanced my leadership ability.
Competitive Programming
https://dmoj.ca/user/JustinFan591/solvedThis website is similar to LeetCode which is where people can practice competitive programming skills such as dynamic programming. This experience taught me how a programmer thinks and the power of implementing dynamic programming thinking while problem-solving. Essentially, dynamic programming is constantly breaking larger problems into smaller ones, solving the smaller ones, and then putting them back together to get the solution to the larger problem.
Fraction Leader And Currency Trader In Video Game Minecraft
In grade 9, I determined to pursue business after making more than $2000 through a video game. It wasn't the money that changed me, but the process. During the COVID-19 outbreak, I had a lot of free time and played Minecraft, a sandbox video game. On a particular server, players created clans, built homes, and traded items, mimicking society. As I grew stronger in the game, my influence expanded, and more people joined my clans. I built an executive team of five to manage over forty members. I devised plans and strategies every night, facing obstacles head-on.To secure members, I created a social media group chat and an interactive bot with a point system. To resolve conflicts, I reached out to members individually. Remembering the difficulties I had in obtaining high-tier equipment, I lent it to my executive team and later to other members for a portion of their earnings. This strategy made us the wealthiest clan on the server. Recognizing a demand, I sold in-game currency for real money, reinvested it, and profited further. The most I made was $500 in one night. My father even thought I was selling drugs because of the money I was making. I fell in love with trading and management, spending 10 hours a day without feeling tired. If I could achieve this in a game that mimics reality, I believed I could do the same in real life. The pandemic unexpectedly benefited this activity. More people turned to online entertainment, increasing the number of potential clan members. I realized the importance of retaining members using technology. With my programming background, I built bots that interacted with members, featuring point and ranking systems. This made managing and motivating members easier. I learned that our world increasingly relies on technology, even in leadership. At that moment, I knew I would pursue business as my path. As school began again, I quit the game and focused on learning once again.
