I am the CEO and curator of The Canonical Art Corporation (TCALLC), a company that explores simulators, optical computers, and software. With over 10 years of experience in hardware design, engineering, and research, I have a deep understanding of the technical and creative aspects of developing innovative solutions for various domains and applications. At TCALLC, I listen to customers and develop plans with them, and then execute as per plan with course correction as the environment evolves. I also lead and mentor a team of talented engineers and designers, who share my passion for creating products that challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of technology. I have multiple patents and publications in the fields of configurable correlator, compressive imaging, and sort system. I am currently working on several papers that I will submit for publication, and I am excited to have several product announcements on the calendar. In addition to my technical and leadership skills, I am also a curious and creative thinker, who enjoys learning new things and exploring different perspectives. I am working on my thesis "The Canonical Art", in which I articulate my journey to understand as much as I can about the universe we find ourselves in. I use the sciences to form a perception of reality and paint a picture of the world and the set of outcomes we may arrive at. The output of this work is used as a decision metric for my company and the computer that helps me run it.I am also a fan of nerd culture and a music enthusiast. I direct, produce and host Nerd Nite Fort Collins, a stage for the brightest minds, the punniest nerds, and a few shenanigans. We have a live show monthly at the Wolverine Farm Publick House, where I love to connect with people who share my interests and passions. I also make music on my computer, using software and hardware tools to express myself and have fun.

Senior Hardware Design EngineerMicrosoft May 2019 - Feb 2022Redmond, Washington, UsAt Microsoft, I developed complex digital IP and explored the apparatus used in that pursuit. Recently, I have examined the space of tools and methodologies improvements enabled by recent advances in AI. I have developed a program to rapidly adopt the best in new tools and methodologies to achieve market dominance. Prior to these pursuits, my focus spanned from articulating product specifications, microarchitecture, and design capture with some exposure to verification and implementation. During my tenure, I have developed IP for a low-power ASIC in Microsoft HoloLens and high-performance FPGAs in the Azure data center. I have also enjoyed mentoring new Hardware Design Engineers. -
Staff Design EngineerXilinx Sep 2015 - Mar 2019San Jose, Ca, UsAt Xilinx I designed implemented and deployed complex digital IP targeting both ASIC and FPGA. Highlights during my time at Xilinx included holding a lead role designing a first in market Polar decoder for 5G wireless, implementation of silicon manufacturing test features and development of high performance data movement architectures for DNNs/CNNs. -
Design EngineerNxp Semiconductors Feb 2014 - Sep 2015Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, NlI designed and implemented the digital RX PHY for BLE, ANT+ and (G)FSK protocols first available in the KW40-512 SOC. My design yielded a 3dB improvement over the existing solution while simultaneously consuming less area and less power. -
Technical StaffInview Technology Corporation Feb 2013 - Feb 2014• Developed a novel light level compensation algorithm for a compressive sensing/spatial light modulator camera.• Developed a novel adaptive sensing algorithm for compressive sensing.• Developed, simulated and implemented highly configurable custom IP to generate spatial light modulator patterns that run at a sustained rate of 40Gb/sec.• Maintained FPGA design and development workflow including git version control, Makefiles, Tcl scripting, VCS simulator and Xilinx tools.• Implemented and debugged a PCIE gen 2 x8 interface to a Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA

Engineering ScientistApplied Research Laboratories, The University Of Texas At Austin Mar 2010 - Feb 2013Austin, Texas, Us• Worked on a team that developed and demonstrated a high speed HF ground wave modem that exceeded customer specifications. My primary role was to implement the modem's physical layer on either a Virtex 5 or Virtex 6 FPGA.• Developed FPGA interfaces for high speed ADCs and DACs (LVDS), supervisory and control interfaces (SPI) as well as interfacing with USB and Ethernet PHYs, GPIO, etc.• Developed a turnkey approach that facilitates rapid design, iteration and deployment of an arbitrary DSP algorithm on an FPGA.• Designed several LMS and DFE equalizers customized to bandwidth, channel and resource specifications. Integrated equalizers into modem physical layers residing on Xilinx Virtex 5, Virtex 6 and Kintex 7 FPGAs.• Implemented high speed correlator, error correction and other physical layer functions in VHDL and Xilinx System Generator.• Wrote and maintained tcl scripting for the Xilinx toolchain yielding in reliable, repeatable results. Helped author a hardware design coding style and best practices document that has greatly reduced downstream design problems. Set up and maintained the Xilinx build environment on both Windows workstations and a server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. -
Student EngineerSouthwest Research Institute Jun 2005 - Aug 2007San Antonio, Tx, Us• Developed an FPGA implementation of forward error correcting codes utilized by the NASA SSCS radio.• Integrated application specific soft co-processors with the PowerPC 405 processor included on Xilinx Virtex 2 Pro FPGAs. Benchmarked application specific architectures and provided detailed analytical results to the customer. Delivered reports to the customer on time and with little supervision.• Worked as a team member on a large project developing a network-based airborne data acquisition and recording system for flight tests of new airframes. Performed tasks including hardware development and procurement, circuit design and analysis, installation of embedded systems, environmental specification conformance testing and documentation. -
T43A Navigation Simulator OperatorLb&B Associates Inc Sep 2003 - May 2005Columbia, Maryland, UsI operated the simulator where I first learned to be an Aerial Navigator. Here I helped train Navigator candidates for all branches of the US Armed Forces and allies. -
Aerial Navigator Instructor Mos 7372United States Marine Corps Sep 1997 - Aug 2003Washington, Dc, UsWorldwide operation of United States Marine Corps KC-130 aircraft. As an Aerial Navigator my role included mission planning for all phases of flight and for multi aircraft and ground asset evolutions and coordination with embassy staff to arrange diplomatic overflight clearance. I was one of the last fully qualified celestial Navigators trained in the US DOD. I performed as a Navigator and as an Instructor Navigator for missions including low-level, aerial delivery of troops and equipment, battlefield illumination, aerial refueling of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft, remote ground refueling, self contained approach and landing all in austere environments.
