A unique project which used 3D technology to coordinate in full prior to construction, but in a virtual environment first. We held regular clash detection meetings to determine possible construction coordination issues and thus minimized these risks (RFI’s) when it came to the construction phase. EVERYONE on the project was educated in this new form of collaboration, this is probably one of the first cases of true IPD – Integrated project delivery, using spatial awareness in modelling, not information modelling. (BIM) The terminal was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. A success story for technology used and one of the earliest implementations of project partnering. I am very proud to be able to say that I played a part of this team. With anything up to 8000 people working on the construction site, it was also one of the safest in history. Show less -
