About Justin John Moniz

Named a 2022 Top 40 Music Educator by the Yamaha Corporation, Dr. Justin John Moniz currently serves as Associate Director of Vocal Performance and Coordinator of Vocal Pedagogy at New York University’s (NYU) Steinhardt School. At NYU, Moniz leads the graduate vocal pedagogy program and teaches courses in pedagogical theory, practice, and applied voice. In addition, he directs the NYU Pop/Rock Ensemble, a group he founded in 2019. Dr. Moniz also serves as Executive Director of Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF), a training and performance program on The Big Island of Hawai’i. His diverse and innovative programming has earned HPAF global recognition and multiple awards from the National Opera Association, The American Prize, and BroadwayWorld. A three-time winner of The American Prize in Vocal Performance, Moniz’s “superb high tenor” (South Florida Classical Review) and “commanding stage presence” (TalkinBroadway.com) has been thrilling audiences in opera houses, theaters, and concert halls across the nation, having sung over 80 roles to date with companies including Opera Grand Rapids, Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, Sarasota Opera, and Florida Grand Opera. A clinician in high demand, Moniz has been invited to present masterclasses and workshops across the United States and Asia. Many of his students have gone on to perform on Broadway, National Tours, and regionally. Moniz holds the D.M. in Voice Performance from Florida State University, an M.M. in Vocal Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, a B.M. in Vocal Performance from the Crane School of Music, and a B.A. in Speech Communication and Rhetoric from SUNY Potsdam. In addition, he earned the HBX Certificate in Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School and the Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University. Moniz was recently identified as one of the University of Miami’s 30 Under Thirty, a Florida State University Notable Nole, and awarded SUNY Potsdam’s Rising Star Award.
