In addition to servicing requests, we are also tapped by various entities in VA to provide subject matter expertise on how GIS, data, and geographic topics apply in VHA and how it can inform policy, law, or regulation. GSOD also lends their talents, support and vast institutional knowledge to expand GIS capabilities and resources across the VHA enterprise, as part of the VHA GIS Initiative. Some examples of our work are mapping out women's health programs, impact and reach of rural telemedicine programs at various VA health care sites across the nation, gaps in transportation, optimal site location, broadband Internet speed availability in rural areas and using geoprocessing and spatial analysis tools to calculate rural Enrollee population at ZIP Code or Census Tract level in gap areas. Ensured quality data collected from five non-VA grantee sites with over 6,000 records and 100 data elements across six relational databases, which were the backbone of the final program report to be routed through VA leadership and eventually reaching Congress, who mandated this program. Heavily engaged in all study procedures, including recruitment/identification of potential Veteran and caregiver study subjects, conducting eligibility screenings for potential subjects, enrolling and consenting screened subjects, collecting and managing quantitative and qualitative data using various formats, and managing regulatory paperwork (IRB, VA R&D, etc), compliance audits, and ensuring human research protection practices enforced by regulatory entities overseeing research. Maintained strict quality control and accuracy of data that produced “first-time right” deliverables garnering repeat client satisfaction.

Coordinated a water use data collection program, while providing GIS support services. Facilitated contact with citizens and commercial and industrial entities. Collected and analyzed vital statistical data, allowing the agency to forecast the future water supply needs of 19 counties in Florida.
