Kwinana Nickel RefineryArea process engineer for water treatment plant, ammonium sulphate plant and offsite Baldivis tailings facility. Responsible for daily troubleshooting, project execution/commissioning, de-bottlenecking and providing technical input and support to the operations, maintenance and project teams.Achievements• • Reduced environmental risk and associated costs through increasing site effluent reprocessing by 50% as a result of implementing and commissioning projects such as a mechanical evaporator in the evaporation cells and effective management of evaporation cell contents.• Reduced environmental risk and raw water costs by increasing uptime and throughput of site water treatment plant by 16% and 47% respectively allowing an extra 150 ML/pa of contaminated water and effluent to be processed as a result of in depth operational analysis and monitoring of plant.• Increased nickel recovery from effluent and reduced environmental risk by implementing a project that allowed offsite effluent to be returned directly back to site via reverse flow and utilizing 8km of existing underground pipelines, effectively enabling the refinery to reprocess effluent directly.Kalgoorlie Nickel SmelterArea process engineer for concentrate rail unloading and flux plant areas. Provided assistance with powerhouse, waste heat boiler and effluent plant areas. Responsible for area commissioning during a number of major shutdowns, area troubleshooting and implementation of various cost reduction and efficiency projects.Achievements• Generated $100k pa cost saving by decreasing idle time of rail unloading compressors through implementation of process control logic causing automatic shutdown of idle compressors• Generated $40k pa cost saving by increasing efficiency of large air cooled condensers through introducing and design of process control logic that shuts off certain fans when there was an excess of cooling capacity.
