I've been working in the Service Provider world for 14 years now, since our network backbone was compromised of 64k ISDN circuits on Ascend Pipeline 50s and fractional DS1s on Pipeline 130s with banks of off-the-shelf USR Sportster 14.4 and 28.8 modems and less than 100 users. The industry has changed a great deal since then. We were offering DSL in rural Kansas years before it was offered in Kansas City. The company expanded with CATV CLEC operations that included VoIP over CATV. We're now offering FTTx with Occam and ADSL2+ with Pannaway. Our newest CLEC operation offers DS1s on Cisco, DS3s on Overture, and LRE (G.SHDSL) using Hatteras on our edge with DS3s and OCs on Overture for backhaul. Our MPLS backbone allows us to provide EoMPLS, MPLS VPN and VPLS services. I began our IPv6 deployment in 2008 that I hope to complete by Q2-Q3 2009. Our SP is one of the few Cisco Powered Networks (CPN) in the world.I've been focusing effort on SP security for some time. I've built a source and destination RTBH system that's fed by a NetFlow archival system. I'm deploying a MARS appliance in Q1 to compliment and tie together my assorted security applications. My future goals are to obtain my CCIE in R&S followed by my SP CCIE. I have the knowledge; I just need the time to complete the exams. I greatly enjoy the SP industry and I intend on staying in this field for the foreseeable future.Specialties: IS-IS design, deployment/migration and administration; all aspects of BGP in SP networks; MPLS in SP networks ranging for MPLS-enabled cores, EoMPLS, MPLS/VPN and VPLS for Metro Ethernet; expert knowledge of anti-spam solutions, specializing on the CanIt product by Roaring Penguin Software; Network Monitoring Systems and performance data processing and archival; extensive experience designing and administering scalable SP mail, DNS and web systems using OSS products; SP security systems.

Board MemberWichita Transit Advisory Board Jul 2023 - PresentI was appointed to the WTAB on behalf of the Regional Economic Area Partnership (REAP).My long-term focus is to find ways to expand transit services to the areas surrounding the incorporated city limits of Wichita, building a regional transit capability. Many of the largest employers are located in the surrounding cities or unincorporated areas of Sedgwick County where public transit isn't currently available. Filling this void and extending services to a broader area provides more workers to employers, as well as lower-cost transportation for workers.Extending public transit to the outlying communities would also serve our aging population. A disproporionate number of seniors live in the outlying areas for their lower expense and slower paced lifestyle. However, they still need access to the medical services located in the urban areas. Crossing from one side of Wichita to the other generally requires utilizing one of the higher-risk highways. Public transit is a safer alternative for seniors when and where it's available.

Council PresidentCity Of Clearwater, Kansas Jan 2020 - PresentIn the Summer of 2019, I was inspired to file for public office. I knocked every door in town and met every neighbor possible. I listened to my neighbors' concerns and hopes for what they wanted to see for our city. I shared with each neighbor my vision for the future of Clearwater, solutions to issues we had, and how I believed I could help. That Fall, I was elected to the Clearwater, KS City Council. Since I was sworn in, I have focused economic and population growth for the city, quality of life, and public safety during the COVID-19 Pandemic. 2020 has been unique to say the least, but we are getting through it together as a community.1/11/22 Update: I was chosen by my fellow Council members to be Council President. It's a privilege to serve our community and an honor to be trusted with this duty. -

Global Wan EngineerThe Coleman Company, Inc. Sep 2011 - Jun 2014Chicago, Illinois, UsManaged Coleman's global WAN that at present spans 3 data centers and 44 sites in 14 countries on 4 continents. We have facilities and staff on a 5th continent that are currently operated by another business unit and have not been migrated. Responsibilities covered all aspects of the network from the ground up design and deployment of new facilities and new sites to ongoing operations, day to day administration and monitoring of the availability and performance of the network services at established sites. Integral in the support and design of the new Cisco Unified Communications systems which included IP Telephony and TelePresence endpoints. Designed a modern wireless infrastructure utilizing Cisco's Unified Wireless Network (UWN) components including Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC), wireless access points, Mobility Services Engine (MSE), and Cisco Prime Infrastructure (formerly NCS, WCS and CiscoWorks LMS). This supported both guest, corporate and production uses in office areas and on the production and warehouse floors. Designed and deployed a PCI DSS-compliant remote site connectivity solution utilizing DMVPN via Cisco routers. This replaced the costly and problematic CheckPoint VPN solution. The WAN made extensive use of Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) to accelerate critical traffic such as Microsoft Exchange email and IBM SAP services.I designed a routing solution to replace OSPF in the core of each data center with iBGP meshes, allowing for dynamic routing via multiple paths based on the type of traffic using BGP Community values.I have traveled extensively through Japan, South Korea and Brazil to onboard new sites and migrate existing facilities to Coleman standard models that I designed. Future trips are planned for China and an EU tour. Given the international nature of Coleman's operations, integrating with multinational infrastructure team members was critical to the success of each project. -

Network EngineerPittsburg State University Aug 2000 - Jun 2003Pittsburg, Ks, UsI was responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of the IP network. I deployed Nagios as the university's NMS. I also designed and deployed a I/O graphing system utilizing MRTG and several thousand lines of custom javascript. I contributed code to the MRTG project to facilitate the archiving of generated graphs.I designed a solution to migrate the flat, aging L2 network to a GigE L3 network using Enterasys (Cabletron) products. The design eliminated the use of aging technologies from the LAN such as ATM and FDDI. I applied for and received the university's first RIR-assignment as part of this project.I deployed a PacketShaper 4545 to regulate the flow of non-critical traffic, prioritizing and guaranteeing bandwidth to mission critical applications. I wrote code for the PacketShaper to add day-of-week scheduling capabilities to the existing time-of-day options to allow more bandwidth to recreational applications on weekends. -
