Falcon Heights is known for our fields and fair. Two large community partners include the University of Minnesota's CFANS and Minnesota State Fair. Officially incorporated as a village in 1949 and a city in 1974, Falcon Heights is home to 5,500 residents. In our small city office, I am officially responsible for implementing the comprehensive plan and zoning code. In our small city office, I am officially responsible for implementing the comprehensive plan and zoning code. This includes approving site plans and issuing permits for zoning related projects as well as working with residents and business to correct code violations. I am the liaison to our Planning and Environment Commissions, which allows me to work closely with others who hope to see our community continue positive, sustainable growth. The City of Delano is located on the eastern border of Wright County, about 25 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. Settled in the 1870s, Delano has a rich history that includes the oldest 4th of July celebration in Minnesota. During my internship, I touched each department in our small city government, including finance, building, community development, public works, and parks. Upward Bound is a federally-funded program hosted at nearly 900 locations across the United States. The goal, to prepare low-income, first-generation high school students for college. I had the opportunity to serve as a student tutor with St. Cloud, MN students during my time at CSB/SJU. After graduating, I returned to work for the UB program in my hometown. During this internship in the spring semester of my senior year at St. John's, I learned about city administration firsthand. The Citizens League is a non-profit, non-partisan, problem-solving organization, based in St. Paul and helping to find solutions benefiting people across Minnesota. During my summer internship with the League, I helped plan events like Policy and a Pint and assisted with a project examining funding for investor owned utilities. I still volunteer and am a sustaining member of the League, because I believe their work is so important and needed.
