In this position, a continuation of my Masters thesis in municipal operations, I worked with a coalition of stakeholders, including the Parking Authority, City Council, Innovation & Performance, civic technologists, sweeping operators, and division supervisors to implement a number of recommendations from our thesis project. I managed the creation of a citizen-facing text reminder system for street sweeping, which required gathering paper routes from each of the divisions and digitizing them using GIS, then working with Innovation & Technology to create GIS services for developers to access the data and working with civic technologists to actually design the application. I also helped implement a change in operations, begun as a pilot, that achieved 45% improvement in efficiency of sweeping operations and will save the Department over 1000 hours annually. Finally, I helped codify the Department's procedures around street maintenance, by creating a policies and procedure document for making updates to the street sweeping routes as well as drafting language for citizens to petition streets to be added or removed.
