My journey as a developer and, now, technology leader started when my parents gifted me a 300-in-1 electronics project kit in fourth grade. I spent HOURS every week learning how to read schematics and build my own circuits. I kept building increasingly complex circuits and it eventually culminated with learning how to program ICs. Once I learned that software could be used to solve real-world problems, I was hooked. I began writing simple programs using BASIC on our family's Laser128 in the late '80s. Then, in the late '90s, I began learning HTML and JavaScript. In 1999, I expanded from JavaScript and HTML into Perl and PHP. That's when I realized I LOVED developing web-based software. However, coming from a small town, I didn't realize software development was an actual career path so instead of choosing a degree in Computer Sciences (a natural fit), I decided to go into Media Communication and Production—a space I found I could leverage my love for both communication and development.Over the past 17 years, I've found that my background and education in communications, marketing, and production coupled with my experience with software development has allowed me to bring a unique perspective and help bridge the typical gap between engineers and business or marketing leaders—both as a maker and a leader. Since 2016, I've been focused on how to build and lead collaborative teams that can build products without burning out their team members. This has included training marketing and engineering leaders on how to effectively develop split testing lifecycles to gain customer data, how to build products based on outcomes, and the importance of using analytics to make product decisions. I've trained teams and other leaders how to work within a Kanban framework effectively, how discovery/delivery processes work, and how to effectively work with teams to develop OKRs. My passion is leading product teams and business leaders to work more collaboratively together to achieve business goals and build things that solve real user problems!

Thru-HikerApplachian Trail Apr 2010 - Jun 2010In spring of 2010, my wife and I sold everything we could and set on an adventure to hit reset on our lives. Life had become about "stuff" and getting the next latest, greatest things. We raised some funds for charity:water during our hike and had the ambition of finishing all 2,200 miles of the AT from Georgia to Maine. Unfortunately, somewhere right before Virginia, I broke my foot and we were forced to stop for awhile. We tried jumping back on after letting it heal for 6 weeks, but had to face the fact that our chance was over for that year. We'll be back out once we retire 👍. By far one of our most defining adventures yet.
