I knew early in life that I was going to be a game programmer – mostly due to the Commodore 64 that I used to write clones of all my favorite Atari 2600 games. I often wonder if my parents had any idea that I would still be huddled over a keyboard, decades later, doing pretty much the same thing...After professionally working as a software developer and running big development teams for years, I decided that it was time to follow my dream of building a game studio.I started 21-6 Productions with my brother and some friends in 2001. We spent years learning the ways of the force and developing a ton of really cool games with a crew of passionate and talented people. Of all our adventures, making educational games had the most impact on me. We were using our powers for good and it meant something. Offbeat Entertainment was started in 2010 when I learned that we could put music into the video game Rock Band. I’m a musician and loved the idea of helping independent artists get their music in front of millions of people. We developed 100 songs for the game over a three year period, generating 10’s of thousands of song sales.As Rock Band started winding down in popularity, Offbeat started making games of our own design that highlighted independent music. The Facebook game Rockstar Rising was our first big push into the space, generating over 10 million song plays in only a few months. In 2015, I started Evolver Studios to focus on creating new digital experiences in mobile VR. We’ve since expanded our repertoire to include PC-based Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and Biofeedback across Healthcare, Law, and Gaming verticals. Other technologies we are researching include Ethereum and Haptic Devices. It’s a great time to be a geek and I’m always looking for other like-minded folks to play with.
