I'm a research scientist with interests in big data, machine learning, and meaningful data - especially health-related data. My work currently centers around representation and composition learning of structured and unstructured data for enhanced downstream supervised methods, a combination that I'm applying to classify drug side-effects and for cancer drug research. I'm eager to see how the success of these models can be applied even more broadly, and to introspect them for explainable predictions.

Manager, Clinical InformaticsRegeneron Nov 2021 - PresentWork on the Clinical Informatics team, providing rigorous statistical and machine learning analysis for a variety of phenotyping endeavors. Work includes ETL and data processing of large clinical datasets, and custom modeling of those datasets to yield targetable insights. In addition to standard, bespoke modeling, also employ LLMs and agentic approaches with Langchain and similar stacks (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI backends; Databricks platform). -
Postdoctoral Research AssociateRice University Aug 2018 - Dec 2021Houston, Texas AreaData, and how it's represented, is critical in developing performant predictive models. My postdoc work centers on leveraging inherently-compositional data representation frameworks to facilitate predictive models for biomedically relevant tasks (e.g. drug safety and cancer research). Alongside this core effort, I also investigate more traditional machine learning algorithms (e.g. SVMs, recurrent neural networks) in these problem contexts. In either case, I'm especially interested in using natural language data from the biomedical literature in developing these models. After all, the biomedical literature is a rich, but complex repository of collected knowledge that can be especially useful for causal inference - a particularly important consideration in the biomedical domain. -
Data ScientistMercury Data Science Sep 2019 - Apr 2020Houston, Texas AreaConsulting on data science approaches and solutions for Mercury Data Science. Delivered three impactful models for different business processes during my time, successfully meeting client-business needs. -
Graduate Student And Keck FellowBaylor College Of Medicine Jun 2014 - Jul 2018Baylor College Of MedicineAs a graduate student at BCM, I worked at UTH and acquired a Keck Fellowship through the GCC at Rice, my work was focused on using a novel combination of machine learning approaches and representational schemes to help leverage the biomedical text. For my thesis work, I developed a state of the art predictive discovery platform for stakeholders in pharmacovigilance (Phase IV post-marketing surveillance) utilizing relationship information between concepts extracted from the biomedical literature, which outperformed models which incorporated a variety of extraliterary information (such as drug product labels and observational data). -
Qc AssociateAdvanced Bio-Logic Solutions Corp. Sep 2012 - Mar 2014Longmont, CoPart of the laboratory execution system (LES) development team for Amgen, I built methods for use in SmartLab using MethodBuilder (drag and drop programming). I also performed functions within QC LIMS as a templator. Exposed to and trained in GxP, especially Good Laboratory Practices. -
Bme Research InternColorado State University Apr 2011 - May 2012Colleges of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical and Biological EngineeringCharacterized the activity of polyelectrolyte multilayers on ovine bone substrate as a potential avenue for the alleviation of limb-salvage operation complications, including nosocomial infection, disunion, and lack of revitalization of donor tissue by a patient-host. -
Cvmbs Research InternColorado State University Feb 2009 - Mar 2011College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical SciencesI contributed to immunohistochemical preparation of cryosectioned retinal tissue and confocal imaging of tissues. Specifically, we examined the localization of opioid receptors in vertebrate retina to elucidate modulation of retinal dopamine release.
