justin has successfully served a long list of pinnacle and practical innovation related agendas. With lead groups at: Nike, NTT, Under Armour, Harvard, lululemon, DARPA, U.S. DoD assets, and many others;as: friend/connector, contractor/advisor, board/council member, team leader/manager or director;in the fields of: sport/lifestyle, military/special operations, consumer/high tech, and bio/medical products.justin has led or advised on both evolutionary & revolutionary program agendas in the areas of: concept gen, R&D, IP dev, product creation & design, materials exploration & dev, MFG processes, commercialization, new/business dev, brand marketing & story-telling, service exp & consumer/end user insights...justin is a consummate (adjective, not verb) professional and evangelist for innovation and problem solving wherever he’s received. His variety of unique insights, stories and examples, come from his multi-industry career of successes and failures he’s been a part of or observed, within the messy, but always exciting world of innovation and special projects. It IS his experience and belief, that to deliver the best of what’s truly possible for any organization— a difficult but necessary dance needs to be done by those who will pursue, explore and drive all manner of boundary-less thinking. The tasked creatives must be partnered appropriately with aggressively enabled fiscal overwatch, who MUST keep open-minds on the work being explored/done to deliver on the agenda. All at the limits of what’s truly possible— of course this should also be done within initially agreed upon budgets/timelines...And as always, when it comes to validating the organizations perceived constraints, the question is simple: "What's it really worth to the Org??To solve this problem and deliver on this objective?"This dynamic debate, has been, is, and always will be— an ongoing challenge within every truly innovative ORG.It can't be emphasized enough, this tug of war cannot be neglected or discouraged. It MUST be encouraged and nurtured, by the C-Suite and the BoD. Not doing so? Is often the path to weak solutions and/or total failure.Additionally, the MOST innovative results generally occur when real problems are solved for real end users, the bonus to which is, this often leads to successfully redefining the space in which the solution resides. Thanks for reading. Good luck/Have fun!You know where to find me if I can 'be of service.'

Advisor+ To FounderMaynard Gunfighting Mar 2024 - PresentSan Diego County, California, United StatesDave Maynard is a modern day, gunfighting Yoda. And who doesn't want to train with a Yoda? Well I did/do/am.Dave has put 50+ years behind the gun, starting at SEAL Team One in 1972.Along his lifetime, He helped bring white lights to firearms 30+ years ago with the founders of Surefire. He's probably done a million+ trigger pulls, all with the intention of optimizing methods that serve protecting freedom. He's also probably one of the best instructors (in anything) I've ever trained with.A master businessman he's not. But, master gunfighter? He definitely is.I strongly suggest if you have ANY inkling at all to learn more? Do it.Look at what he's doing at www.HowToGunfight.comIt's not a high dollar, high production website. But it's an introduction. From there? Engage him in a conversation. You won't be disappointed.I mean, really, how many Yoda's (in anything) do you know? His resume and articles on the website say a lot about his life on the gun.And in an increasingly dangerous world? Understanding the principlesabout how to use, or defend against a gun? May just save your life, or save someone else in your life. -
Innovation [And Special Projects]Rxd Team Mar 2016 - Present"Red teaming is a systematic way of making critical and contrarian thinking part of the strategic planning process of any organization. It was developed by the U.S. military and intelligence agencies to overcome cognitive bias and groupthink, to force decision makers to challenge their assumptions, and to avoid the “failures of imagination”The Red Team provides commanders with critical decision-making expertise during planning and operations."now, with the above explained...just how i decide on the work I do these days, is pretty straightforward.my many diverse and pinnacle experiences and successes are able to support outcomes that will move ANY operation successfully forward. are you and or your org are feeling STUCK?are you and or your org excited for NEXT?are you evolutionizing your opportunity(s)?are you revolutionizing your industry(s)?if yes? then you're on the right track...if no? then why not?you can hire me to lead a RED TEAM on why you and or your org aren't yet breaking through on ANY wide range of maximum potential objectives and or outcomes.easy day.no drama.let's do this.oh, and why the red "X"?because everything BIG thatmatters in life? happens on the X...in the military the X is where the point of action IS.so what's your X? your homelife? your worksite?the red X for us also constitutes life and death scenarios...noting, if you can plan, execute, thrive and succeed in life and death environments? like: war; law enforcement; surgical centers; air, space, oceanic, nuclear/chem/bio labs and myriad other spaces...then non life threatening work environments should be a decision space where cool heads, measured responses, and a spirit of welcoming challenges exist and will relentlessly be solved for.are we the rXd team for your X? lets find out, shall we? -

(along with other key performance indicators, that existing glucose monitors cannot measure.) SM24 is the first non-invasive, continuous and immediate, *minimal sweat (can you say *nano-liters?) glucose monitor which meets and exceeds all current offerings measuring blood glucose.SM24 also has intentionally built-into the firmware, the capabilities to activate *three other metrics (which have been proven to deliver, in the team's research + development) *lactate. *hydration. AND *cortisol. This multi-patented technology is leading all of us involved, to believe that it just might be the most important invention for health since the introduction of the personal heart rate monitor... Exciting stuff! -

Advisor++ To Founder | CeoSugaringla Jul 2017 - Dec 2021Southern California, UsaProvided Danielle everything i have to offer:including my know-how, network and broad experiences from working within the c-suites of global multi-billion dollar brands...To help her completely re-shape and ultimately redefine sLA into a center of excellence in personal care, by taking her little 'local' boutique of studios, with 5 locations...to becoming the 'global' best it can be.We rebranded sLA and brought on her first investor, while elevating it to the top of its potential by working with other industry leaders like Gwyneth Paltrow and Goldman's Sachs. We then relaunched sLA into a ready-state global look and feel, which made it ready for scaling into becoming the best and brightest global leader of its kind in the beauty industry.Along the way, we also formulated and brought to market, a California sourced and manufactured clean beauty product line. All of the above made sLA ready for international multi-unit franchising as a 'center of excellence' organization, offering clean beauty products and harm free everything inside of every location, with services epitomizing the 'best in class' of self care, beauty and hair removal experiences...It was an exhaustive and fully immersive end to end business project for me to be involved in, but I'm very proud of my role in helping deliver optimization and all manner of improvements to nearly every creative and commercial aspect of sLA with Danielle, her team and sLA's many resulting partners along our journey during this time. The outcome truly delivered the industry leading results that have served the organization to become all that it is today. I'm so proud of that. -

Director Of Store Of The FutureLululemon Athletica Jul 2015 - Oct 2015Vancouver, CanadaAt the time of my hire, lululemon was the 2nd most profitable retailer in Canada (behind Apple) and 3rd in America (behind Apple and Tiffany's.) Impressive statistics, especially for a sports industry brand. Even more impressively, they hired Me for this role, even though I had no retail experience. WHY? Because they were truly THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX. They wanted an innovative disruptor, whom had deep product innovation experience and proven business innovation experience. They also did not need someone to tell them how to become a top North American Retailer, they already were that....this was future ops, to continue providing their Guests, the best retail experience in the industry. They wanted an experienced/diversely qualified innovator, to objectively look at what they were doing right and to then define the areas of opportunity that would collaboratively enable them to take it to an all new next level. And we did.During my 90 days I routinely sat with the SVP of Global Retail and the SVP of Innovation, but also with the CEO and a long list of VPs, directors, managers, educators - all levels! WE methodically and collaboratively created 9 successive strategic decks (yes, one approx every 10 days!) in collaboration with TETHER.comThe end result was a new roadmap for The Store of the Future. We delivered in 90 days what they had struggled to define in totality for 3+ years. All were very happy with the result and I couldn't have had a better experience.Unfortunately I was called to Silicon Valley for an amazing opportunity in high tech I couldn't refuse. But given a chance, I would definitely re-join lululemon. They are an absolutely amazing and authentic company, set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. -
Open Innovation & Special ProjectsUnder Armour Sep 2011 - Jul 2015Portland, Or & Baltimore, MdIn my role at Under Armour, my team and I were tasked to look at a broad range of engagements, all related to products, services and programs that either needed a big push, or did not currently exist, within the organization: this could include (but was never limited to) leading/funding & developing new advanced R&D, all manner of new (or refined) commercialization models, new business opportunities, as well as buying IP, sharing IP, licensing IP, royalties...the list goes on and on...You name it.This meant we had to evaluate every viable (scalable) business opportunity and bring it up for discussion. This generally resulted in outcomes that produced experiences and relationships that I was (and am) very pleased to have been a part of.We looked over the horizon (think 2-5 year innovation & business calendars) at things that would result in global industry shock and awe. That was the mission & we experienced considerable mission success during our time together. It was also fun for me to help open and shape the future of UA's Portland presence.(...You're welcome Under Armour.)Thank you for the opportunity. -
Innovation Kitchen (Pantry Division)Nike Jul 2009 - Sep 2010Beaverton, OregonThis one year period, concluded justin's near 5 year full-time (ETW) innovation commitment. He reported to Tinker and Tobie Hatfield, and on occasion, related to his unique project, directly to the CEO (and other executives.) He concluded his nike tour of duty with a one of a kind special projects deliverable, directly for nike founder, Phil Knight.justin served this 5 year skunkworks project, which served elite US Special Operations, from within nike's innovation group. Leading the charge on a special project that drove the creation and commercialization of some of the highest performance footwear, apparel, equipment and sensory experience products nike has ever delivered. To achieve this, he led program initiatives within the advanced product engines of: The Innovation Kitchen (advanced footwear and equipment) The Hive (advanced apparel) SST (sparq sensory training) and The NSRL (nike sports research lab.) As the product reached completion, he was then tasked to lead the strategic planning of the Go To Market business plan, which included leading the design & activation of a special access website which would become nike's first Direct To Consumer offering on the web.Simply put: justin wore a LOT of nike hats those 5+years. This summary scratches the surface, but feel free to inquire for further details. Suffice it to say, it was a once in a lifetime experience, bar none. -
Innovation Kitchen & Special ProjectsNike Jan 2006 - Jun 2009Beaverton, Oregonjustin served during this period as a product and program innovator. With no direct reports, he had to work effectively as an influence leader, by recruiting creative assets and teams company wide, to contribute to the product and program initiatives he was assigned. Within these projects, he worked hand-in-hand with every area, including: design, research, testing, development, manufacturing, commercialization, e-commerce, strategic planning, even sales and marketing. He was given a rare opportunity "inside the Berm" to lead and contribute to a very diverse range of advanced programs, products and human performance initiatives, intended to measurably advance the performances of athletes and the intended consumer.Working under Tobie Hatfield, while also reporting to Innovation VP - Tinker Hatfield, justin was utilized and enabled as an innovation resource who could be relied upon to discover, define and deliver results in situations where there was "no road map."Tinker once jokingly called justin a coyote. When curiously asked why, he said:"A coyote's one of the most resourceful animals on the planet! It's basically capable of adapting to, and then thriving in, just about any environment. That's pretty much justin."Recognized for having a clear understanding of concept to consumer, product creation -as well as the critical thinking business development know-how, that many creatives respectfully struggle with- justin's many additional soft skills also became apparent which helped make him a successful influence leader, a Brand diplomat. In nike innovation, you will perform optimally, if you are an effective team player and collaborator, while also being a relentless self starter and creative problem solver... It also doesn't hurt to be fully adept at working equally well within narrow guard rails, or with no guard rails at all. All in all, it was an unparalleled experience I was privileged to have. -
Innovation DirectorOregon Biomedical Engineering Institute Jun 2009 - Jul 2010Portland, OregonFor a little over a year during this time, justin continued to serve nike innovation in a unique capacity- and in parallel, accepted an incredibly special offer to be hired by world renown scientist and cardiologist, Dr. Kenton Gregory M.D.Dr. Gregory is the founder of OBEI; the founder of the OMLC (Oregon Medical Laser Center) and the founder of the OCRM (Oregon Center of Regenerative Medicine.)justin's responsibilities were to help define, develop and refine OBEIs approach to designing and developing products for an optimized end user experience, and to lead the reset and refocus of their design process and program approach. One of the products at this time, were to lead the hiring and management of a design firm (we chose ZIBA design) and help drive the deliverables for a product that is now known as XSTAT (see link below.) This product was a Department of Defense award winner in 2015.Parallel objectives were to invent; to lead the exploration of new market opportunities; and to determine realistic targets within OBEIs core market of medicine; while facilitating new partnerships and an expansion into the performance apparel and footwear industries. The focus of these efforts and programs centered around providing end users significant advancements in the areas of health, wellness, performance and medicine; across the human body.OBEI leads research, development and commercialization in a wide range of areas that enhance products used on the surface of the skin and beneath it: exploring advanced material development opportunities using over-the-horizon nanotech methods; advancing research and development around tissue/muscle/organ/limb regeneration; continuing to advance the world of hemorrhage control devices; and other not-currently-disclosable areas of research and development.

General Manager Of OperationsThe S.B.K Co. 1995 - 2000justin's education in the family business began as a youngster, and in very brief summary: he basically grew up learning the many in's and out's of the soft goods manufacturing business. It was a business founded in 1905 by his great grandfather. And resulted in his learning how to successfully run each and every production machine in the building. Such as (but not limited to): the mechanical and programmable cutters, embossers/debossers, heat sealers, RF welders, heat stamping machines, sewing machines, presses of all types, die cutters; and working with supported/unsupported vinyls, leathers, canvas, plastics; natural and synthetic materials, etc...It was a considerable hands on experience, learning to make all types of soft goods at a young age and into adulthood. (And -it was fun!)Responsibility to the continued growth of the near 100 year old organization necessitated learning the family's "A to Z" approach and operating effectively in both the back and front ends. The family business was sold in 2000.Custom and Commercialized - Soft Goods Manufacturing.Est. 1905 - Oregon USA
