2020 to present: Lead the Java Build/Ecosystem of Amazon(Notes: From 2020 through Jan 2023, I was the sole engineer defining and working in this space. Java is the primary language of Amazon, accounting for >60% of code activity by commit, and >90% of business critical software)- Building the future of Amazon's Java development infrastructure. (Amazon is primarily a Java shop)- Modernizing Amazon's existing code base from the Make and Apache Ant era to the modern Maven and Gradle era- Tactically patching software throughout the company to unblock wide-scale upgrades, as well as handling patching and support for zero days and critical CVEs- Engaging and partnering with Amazon developers from a wide variety of disciplines (finance, cloud providers, AI/ML, video/audio streaming, robotics, aviation, retail, logistics, frontend, mobile development, embedded/IoT, framework authors, SDK vendors, and more) to deliver general and specific solutions.- Enabling builders to build! 2019 to 2020: AWS Commerce Platform SWAT- Miscellaneous "SWAT" short term assignments to unblock or de-risk org-wide initiatives.- With team, created a region expansion solution to assist development teams to desegregate data, migrate targeted data to new regions, migrate client traffic to a new region (no multi-team coordination required), manage cutover state, and do all of this without taking a read outage. The solution involves conditional proxying based on external cutover state, a CLI-based interaction for safely managing data routes and data migrations, and high throughput data streaming with the ability to put filters/transformers in the middle.- Designed a serverless cutover state management microservice (API Gateway, Fargate, DynamoDB, all controlled through IaC and deployed with CI/CD with testing, alarms, auto rollback) and migration management.2018 to 2019: AWS Commerce Platform, eInvoicing- Implemented an asynchronous internal cross-org data delivery component to change mastery (different databases, different teams) of a subset of historical and streaming customer documents.- Implemented a serverless microservice (API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, all controlled through IaC and deployed with CI/CD with testing, alarms, auto rollback) that serves as a repository for an AWS API's backend. (The API is in private beta as of 2020)- Implemented a microservice (SNS, SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB, defined as IaC, deployed with automated testing, alarms, auto rollback) that handles email-only responses from 3p payment systems.

Maintained a number of scrappy, legacy AWS Customer Service scripts, tools, and web services.Created a refund calculation script (Greasemonkey, Ext.js) to improve the speed of refund issuance. The reduction in technical customer support agent effort (time saved * hourly pay * agents employed) was estimated over $1 million in the first year.Created a call center dashboard (Flask, jQuery, internal API) to display number of contacts in the day, next agent available, number of calls holding when applicable, etc.Created an analytics web site (Flask, React) for customer support leadership to understand support case trends, like the number of cases related to common contacts, the number of cases for a given sub-team of customer support, or the number of cases nearing SLA at any given point.Created an alarming monitor for all of Amazon's usage of AWS to prevent resource constraint and allow for better capacity limiting/planning of multiple AWS services.
