Primary Care Track

- Conduct Morris Water Maze behavioral task and associated variations (SWM) with Male Sprague-Dawley rats- Conduct fixed-speed Rotarod Performance Task at variable speeds with rats- Conduct Elevated Plus Maze, CatWalk, Light Dark Box, Neuroscore, NSSR behavioral measures- Perform intravenous cannulation in the jugular vein using aseptic technique and anesthesia for repeated administration and collection of fluids- Collect blood samples and administer drug dosages intravenously using a rat jugular vein catheter - Prepare and collect blood serum samples- Whole animal perfusion fixation with brain collection and storage for rats- Microdissect rat brains to collect frontal cortex, striatum, hippocampus, midbrain region, and cortex- Perform the WRAIR closed-head projectile concussive impact model of mild traumatic brain injury- Perform craniectomy to induce penetrating ballistic-like brain injury (PBBI) equivalent to 10% of total rat brain volume- Stereotaxic surgery for PBBI and EEG - Humanely euthanize rodents via CO2, perfusion, or rapid decapitation

- Aid in discharging patients, provide snacks and other necessary items to patients, restock supplies, and provide other supportive means for the medical staff.

- Prepare and serve fresh beverages to customers while maintaining cleanliness of the restaurant

- JIFSAN is a jointly administered, multidisciplinary research and education program and includes research components from the FDA Centers for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) and the University of Maryland, College Park- Identified virulence factors that contribute to the enterotoxicity of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in clinical and environmental strains by conducting and preparing cell cultures, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, and serology tests - Assisted principal investigator and research professionals in analyzing and interpreting data collected daily- Maintained laboratory equipment such as a glassware, thermal cyclers, centrifuges, micropipettors, pH meters, gel electrophoresis boxes, reagents, and incubators- Maintained data records, laboratory notebook, and cleanliness of the laboratory

- Supervised and assisted high school students with academics while managing program events- Assisted Program Coordinator with scheduled events- Chaperoned students during program events and field trips

- Proctored parents/adolescents to participate in clinical tasks and questionnaires throughout the lab following strict research procedures and protocols as approved by the IRB- Measured participants physiological levels such as blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels- Assisted with laboratory administration by answering phone calls and supervising the lab, and assisted with coding and entering data into a database- Conducted phone interviews to recruit qualified participants
