Manufacturing Engineer

Kent, Wa, Us

In my role at Blue Origin, I was responsible for ensuring on-schedule, high-quality completion of assemblies and installations on the company's New Glenn orbital flight vehicle project. The role was very dynamic and was enjoyable for me because of the wide variety of tasks that I got to work on. Here are some examples of the work I do: - Write work instructions for integrating fluids and structural components into propellant tanks. - Provide hands-on assistance and shipside support for assemblies and installations. - Write nonconformance reports and dispositions when issues arise (i.e., parts being dented, corroded, etc.). - Create or modify models and drawings of tooling and test equipment (i.e., lifting devices) in PTC Creo. - Perform basic structural analysis of custom lifting tools and have load limits approved by lift director. - Use PTC Windchill to release CAD models, drawings, work instructions, and ground support equipment kits. - Review drawings and work instructions and provide feedback on them during the release process. - Create manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs) to simplify part configurations for complex installations. - Create schedule impact reports when unexpected issues arise. - Electronically and physically track hardware for upcoming installations to ensure production readiness. - Provide off-nominal responsible and manufacturing engineer shift support to help meet production schedules. - Redline drawings when design inconsistencies are found and have modifications approved by designers. - Mentor new employees by teaching them about New Glenn rocket design and how to use company software.

Reduced time required to create visual representation of priorities from two hours to 10 minutes. - Installed structural components (i.e., ring frames, splice plates, Hi-Loks) on first stage engine bay flight article. - Tested strain gauge connectivity for structural component qualification tests. - Wrote detailed fastener installation work orders based on drawings and technical specifications.

Cincinnati, Oh, Us

At GE Aviation, I was a member of the Aero & Thermal Technologies Team, which helps develop solutions for next-generation military propulsion systems. Here are some of the projects I worked on during the internship:- Performed afterburner auto-ignition study. Did grid dependence study to determine inflation layer sizes required to accurately measure flow patterns. Analyzed results in Ansys CFD-Post and Excel and created transfer function to relate different geometries. Presented results and had study archived in company’s design review book. - Studied accuracy and precision of different radiation heat transfer analysis programs. Solved problems in Ansys APDL and Thermal Synthesizer System (TSS). Compared results to analytical solutions based on first principles.
