I attended Reed College and obtained my BA in Biology. I then attended graduate school at the Vollum Institute, Oregon Health and Science University. My dissertation research in the lab of Wolfhard Almers focused on using two-color evanescent field microscopy to investigate the fusion and recapture of single exocytic vesicles in living neuroendocrine cells. After receiving my Ph.D. in Cell Biology, I did postdoctoral work in the lab of William N. Zagotta in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Washington, Seattle. My postdoctoral work involved developing new fluorescence methods to study the structure and function of membrane proteins in living cells. I am now an Investigator in the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
