About Jeroen Van Baar, Ph.D.

Dr. Jeroen van Baar is a neuroscientist, psychologist, and TEDx speaker who has worked as a researcher at Brown University and the Netherlands Institute of Mental Health. He uses science to illuminate societal issues including polarization and the mental health crisis. His work has been featured in e.g. The Economist, Psychology Today, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature Communications. His first book "De prestatiegeneratie" (2014) was a hit in the Netherlands and his second book is forthcoming in 2025 with Atlas Contact publishers in Amsterdam. He is a passionate writer and public speaker, publishes a weekly newsletter to hundreds of subscribers, and has given > 120 invited talks on mental health and the brain at organizations including L'Oreal, KPN, Rabobank, Adyen, and VDL group.Dr. Van Baar's recent research combines neuroscience with policy research to understand how socioeconomic uncertainty contributes to mental health inequities. He specializes in designing and evaluating health policies and practices in a variety of settings. His skill set includes big data analysis, machine learning/AI, and qualitative research methods.
