Gis Tutor/Specialist/Instructor
Teaching in the form of workshops (5 to 25 people) and one-on-one tutoring of undergrads, grad students, postdocs, faculty and staff on ArcGIS and other spatial tools @ Stanford's Branner Earth Sciences Library (http://lib.stanford.edu/GIS & bit.ly/geotraining & https://patch.com/california/paloalto/spatial-mapping-goes-mainstream)I also performed GIS analysis and data visualization (using ArcGIS10) for carbon sequestration studies with prof Jennifer Wilcow at the Clean Energy Conversions Laboratory of the School of Earth Sciences (http://cec-lab.stanford.edu/index.php). Some of my work was published in Wilcox' book titled 'Carbon Capture', http://goo.gl/x6GL1
Sr Analyst (Site Characterization, Gis & Lead Hydrogeologist)
As the lead GIS analyst at this fast paced Silicon Valley start-up I used ArcGIS10 as my primary tool for site screening and site evaluation activities. Analyses included natural and industrial feedstock (liquid and solid) relevant to Calera’s processes, e.g. groundwater, ores and gangue, and industrial waste streams.I performed a study on the global, regional and local potential ("prospectivity") of traditional CCS versus an innovative Calera-developed carbon geo-sequestration scheme. I gathered data on (complexity of) sedimentary basins, porosity, permeability, and cap rock. Data sources included DOE/NETL, IPCC, Natcarb and oil & gas industry. I generated total potential sequestration capacity (Gt), pore volumes, depths, thickness, etc, and a lot of maps. To be able to find the needles in the haystack, I implemented MetaCarta – a geosearch and geotagging engine – to quickly analyze the relevancy of thousands of (scanned) documents; this also included integration with ArcGIS and Google Earth.Additionally, I also acted as the lead hydro-geologist, and performed groundwater flow and transport modeling (MODFLOW) for site selection and well field design. I collected and analyzed the hydrogeologic data required (from USGS, state GS, oil and gas industry, scientific papers etc). I used ArcGIS and Hydro Geobuilder for conceptual model building and preprocessing. Visual MODFLOW was my main user interface for numerical modeling on groundwater flowMore key words: QA/QC spatial data; ArcGIS; KML and kmz: import/export ArcGIS-Google Earth and Google Maps; focus on natural resources and energy industry; data mining; data analysis and data presentation. Projects in US, China, Australia and EU. Also see: www.calera.com
