Joachim Vandercasteelen joined the World Bank in 2019 as Young Professional. Before joining, he worked as an independent consultant and a post-doctoral fellow at the LICOS Centre of Institutions and Economic Performance at the University of Leuven. Joachim holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leuven. As a consultant, he worked for the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the World Food Program, and the Weather Index-based Risk Services (WINnERS) project at Imperial College London. In each of these projects, Joachim was responsible for designing and implementing the impact evaluation of different value chain interventions in the agricultural (sub-) sectors in Tanzania, Ivory Coast, and Ethiopia. He also co-authored a chapter on inclusive value chain development in the recent AFR poverty report. Joachim currently works at the Independent Evaluation Group, where he tries to integrate his quantitative skills with qualitative methods in project evaluation
