I joined Stripe to help build out the London engineering office. I hired and led the EMEA Money Movement team which launched products such as Stripe's Bank Transfer and OpenBanking Payment Methods, Alternative Currency Payouts as well as building Stripe's connectivity to various European Banking rails.In 2022, I took on a global role where I'm responsible for a set of teams from the UAE to SF who own and operate Stripe's payout product portfolio and infrastructure.

At Facebook I built and supported a number of teams at the intersection of software engineering and machine learning:- Audience Network ranking: this team built the auction & ML ranking stages to decide which ads to show on Facebook's third party ads network.- A research team which investigated long term investments in ML: e.g. we built a system which used ML and optimization to optimally allocate physical resources (e.g. CPU/memory) across the ads fleet.- Responsible AI for Ads: a team which explored and implemented algorithmic fairness and privacy preserving technology within the Facebook ads stack.

My main contributions were in the automated bidding strategy team where I led the effort to improve performance and grow adoption of the enhanced CPC strategy.My contributions involved a mix of C++, Python, large scale logistic regression and TensorFlow™ based modelling.

Team lead for all Rangespan's data science efforts. Our mission was to help retailers massively expand their production range and provide them with powerful new retail analytics. The data science team ran a Hadoop/Elasticsearch/MongoDB based infrastructure to enable various machine learning based tools for data mining, natural language processing and trend analysis and forecasting.Rangespan's customers included Argos, Tesco, eBuyer.com, ASDA, Maplin and Staples.

My responsibilities were at the intersection of research and engineering.On one hand, I performed research to advance the state of the art in statistical machine learning; specifically in the areas of recommendation systems, the semantic web and crowd sourcing. One of my main contributions was the design of a probabilistic programming language called PQL (the Probabilistic Query Language). I collaborated with researchers across the machine learning, programming languages and systems group to execute large scale machine learning problems on new high performance clusters.On the applied side, I helped build production systems: e.g. Project Emporia is a personalized news reader for the web (HTML5) and Windows Phone. My responsibilities ranged from contributing to technology transfer, designing large scale web architectures and implementing them on top of the Windows Azure and .NET stack.
