Through grassroots organizing and statewide coalition campaigns, my work has contributed to the passage of ACA 8 which gives voters the opportunity to end all forms of slavery in California, SB 2 which established a process to decertify police officers who commit serious misconduct, AB 118 which created a statewide pilot program for community-based alternatives to police regarding emergency responses for non-criminal situations, SB 203 which protects Miranda rights for 16 and 17-year-olds, Prop 17 which restored voting rights for 50,000 Californians on parole, SB 567 which ensures due process for people receiving aggravated prison terms, and the defeat of Prop 20 which would have dramatically increased mass incarceration in California. I’ve worked on campaigns to restore visiting as a right for incarcerated people (AB 990), end excessive juvenile probation terms (AB 503), increase resources for community-based juvenile justice crime prevention programs (SB 493), and abolish CDCR collusion with ICE who seek to deport people who have already served their time (AB 937). I have helped families support their incarcerated loved ones through Parole Board preparation and resentencing. I am a participatory defense trainer with Silicon Valley De-Bug where I build organizing capacity throughout the nation for organizations to support people facing charges, their families, and communities to impact the outcomes of cases and transform the landscape of power in the court system. I am a certified healing circle keeper and a subject-matter expert in the field of California prison conditions, gangs, rehabilitation, and the Parole Board process, and have lent my expertise in several court cases. I served on the Justice Reinvestment Coalition Steering Committee and the Alameda County DA Accountability Subcommittee. I am the vice president and cofounder of RTimeCo., a nonprofit org dedicated to providing transitional housing support and peer mentorship to formerly incarcerated people.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic I worked as a frontline worker by providing safety for 120+ unhoused people at Safe Sleeping Village in Downtown San Francisco. I de-escalated and resolved conflicts in a public setting, particularly with people afflicted with mental illness, and I interrupted negative behavior such as public urination, drug using, and open-air drug sales.

As a recipient of the prestigious Willie L. Brown, Jr. Fellowship, I interned in the office of San Francisco Board of Supervisors Shamann Walton where I participated in the planning of the closure of Juvenile Hall, created a reentry resource list for the Latino Task Force Violence Prevention/Reentry Committee, and worked on a city ordinance to hold deputy sheriffs accountable for using excessive force on people inside the county jail.
