IT consulting - planning, design, purchasing, installation and maintenance of technology for small to medium businesses. In a city of 10 million people; many of those people being very talented the competition was tough. However I was able to make some great connections in the legal field and after proving myself became the only individual they referred for IT services and consulting.

Spokane, Washington Area

Rostie Consulting serves small to medium sized businesses in the Inland Northwest. We provided a full range of IT consulting services to businesses of all shapes and sizes. During my time at Rostie Consulting I worked on everything from day to day operational and desktop support to installing WiFi infrastructure for the 2010 figure skating championships. One of our clients (Porsche) adopted me as their "go to guy" in the Inland Northwest for a security project and beta testing of emerging technology that allowed technicians to work on their customers Porsche wirelessly/remotely. As you can imagine, the security necessary to make this a viable tool was rather intense.

At Microsoft I worked on a team that managed major technology failures/outages that involved or affected Microsoft software, apps and/or tools. The clients we served included major world governments and large multi-national corporations. I enjoyed the inherently difficult nature of this job and the new challenges it presented on a daily basis. My experiences at Microsoft as a "Critsit Admin" contributed a great deal to my ability to handle multiple high visibility projects at once under high amounts of stress. Additionally I further honed my skills at cross cultural/intercultural communication as many (if not most) of the people we worked with were outside the United States. In fact, my team worked what is known as "rest of world hours" - which is a fancy way of saying, the night shift.

Iraq

CFLCC, C4 & MC4 Satcom/RF/VSAT Engineer and technician. It was our job to support US and coalition forces on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. My group provided data & telephony communications access (mainly) to the Army and Marines. However our job description was very fluid and we were often tasked with other missions/objectives. When I first accepted my position with the DoD I was supposed to be working in Kuwait. My job was to train military units on their way into Iraq and/or Afghanistan, provide them with the equipment they'd need and support that equipment (remotely) from a help desk at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. However as the insurgency gained strength and speed in Iraq our mission changed and it became apparent that our support was going to be needed (on site/in theatre) to set up, move, operate and/or repair our VSATs. I was the first person in our group to volunteer to "go north" as we called it and I spent the next few years living and working in Iraq.
