Chief Medical Officer For SimulationOsf Healthcare Jun 2012 - PresentPeoria, Illinois, UsI am an emergency medicine physician, medical educator, and healthcare services researcher. Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center will add ample space within its current facilities to provide a comprehensive simulation program for patient safety and performance improvement. This space is a simulation itself, as it is a reproduction of the all of the care areas of OSF Healthcare and outpatient healthcare delivery settings. Learners will engage with simulators and real hospital equipment with the goal of providing access to standardized and validated curricula which will dramatically reduce deviations in healthcare quality and improve patient safety. The Center will have a full complement of multiple highly sophisticated, computer driven mannequins and devices for use during simulations. -

Duane And Mary Cullinan Professor In Simulation OutcomesUniversity Of Illinois At Chicago May 2013 - PresentChicago, Il, UsTo help better train future medical students and residents alike in diagnosing patients, the Cullinan family has made a major gift to the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria to endow the Duane and Mary Cullinan Professorship in Simulation Outcomes. Named for Cullinan’s late parents, the professorship is being established to provide leadership for the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. A joint project between the College of Medicine, Peoria campus, and OSF St. Francis, the 60,000- square-foot facility will include computer simulations to help residents learn diagnostic techniques and procedural skills; surgical simulations in laparoscopy and robotics; and actors trained to be “simulated patients,” who will present symptoms and respond to examination questions and procedures. Duane Cullinan headed the board and Mary Cullinan volunteered at the hospital. -
Professor Of Clinical Emergency MedicineUniversity Of Illinois At Chicago Aug 2016 - PresentChicago, Il, UsMy primary role for the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago at the Regional campus in Peoria is in the creation and advancement of medical education within the Jump Center. Director, Simulation Technology And Immersive LearningNorthwestern University, Feinberg School Of Medicine May 2012 - Jun 2012Chicago, Il, UsLeadership role for the Feinberg School's efforts in medical simulation -
Associate ProfessorNorthwestern University, Feinberg School Of Medicine 2000 - 2011Chicago, Il, UsApart from my clinical practice of emergency medicine, I have been engaged in simulation research since 2004, and has specific expertise in hospital-based healthcare professions simulation and team training, having developed coding practices for behavioral analysis in in situ simulations. I and other team members are actively engaged in process improvement measures using in situ training within the Northwestern Memorial Hospital environment and I am actively involved in Feinberg School of Medicine’s Institute for Healthcare Research and its Center for Patient Safety. I am a nationally recognized as a leader in medical simulation. My research has been funded by the Department for Health and Human Services, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and private foundations. -
DirectorSimulation Technology And Academic Research, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare 2003 - 2008While at ENH I served as a board-certified emergency physician who worked clinically in the three hospitals of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (ENH) and is an expert in the use of simulation for training and evaluation. There I had developed focused training at nearly every level of expertise, including practicing physicians, house staff, medical students, nursing professionals and students, nurse-extenders, and pre-hospital providers.Currently he is engaged in the integration of simulation training into patient safety efforts as PI on the AHRQ funded grant, Simulation-based Training Program to Augment EMR-based Handoff Tool. Dr. Vozenilek is Co-Investigator on the three-year Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Targeted Issue Grant to develop a simulation–based pediatric emergency medicine curriculum for emergency medicine residents (PI:Adler, M). I directed two simulation centers within ENH and was responsible for several large scale simulation-based patient safety efforts for all nurses within the three-hospital ENH system, including experiential training using a standardized communications method, adopted the SBAR reporting tool, the “Situation Room”, an in-situ effort designed to increase situational awareness, and efforts in reduction on injury during Labor and Delivery shoulder dystocia events. Medical students, internal medicine, and emergency medicine residents from both Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago were other frequent recipients of training at the simulation centers. All of the last four classes of graduating medical students (approximately 150 per class) from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine up until 2008 had received a simulation experience in emergency medicine management principles at the center in Evanston.
