In addition to my prior responsibilities as Senior Managing Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel, as Associate General Counsel and Division Lead for the Sales & Product Support Division, I now manage three departments within the AHM Law & Intellectual Property business unit -- Sales, Captive Finance, and e-Advanced & New Business -- with about 24 associates (13 attorneys and 11 paralegals/staff) total. I also work with the three other Associate GCs and the General Counsel, as well as our Senior Vice President and Manager, on unit activities, and help provide strategic direction both to the unit and the company. In addition, since April 2023 I have served as the Executive Sponsor of the California chapter of Honda's BRG focusing on mental health and disability awareness and support, ENABLE.

In addition to carry-over responsibilities from my position as Senior Corporate Counsel, as Senior Managing Counsel and department lead for the Sales/Dealer Relations/Marketing department I managed a group of seven supporting corporate matters (dealer relations/market representation, employment, advertising/communications, contracts, regulatory & safety affairs) at AHM, as well as executing projects for the business unit. In addition, due to turnover, I became directly responsible for handling dealer relations/market representation matters for both auto and powersports sales units.

Serve as senior regulatory counsel for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and its affiliates, providing legal advice related to safety, regulatory, and legislative development issues, including recalls, that affect the automotive, powersports (on and off-road motorcycles, ATVs, and side-by-side vehicles), general purpose engine, power equipment, and marine products designed, manufactured, distributed, or sold in the United States by American Honda Motor Co.and its affiliates. Interface with regulating entities such as National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resources Board (CARB), and U.S. Coast Guard. Engage in general risk management and product liability mitigation analysis as it relates to product offerings and related corporate communications. Review existing and proposed product offerings, as well as communications related to such offerings; consult on product changes and updates; help develop and manage safety and environmental recalls and product update campaigns; and assist in corporate response to proposed legislation and regulation on environmental, safety, and other product related issues at the state and federal levels. Interface with Honda affiliates in other markets on global issues affecting product safety and regulatory strategy. Also responsible for advice regarding product-related privacy and cybersecurity issues and issues involving connected products and autonomous technology. In September 2015, this position was moved from the Product Regulatory Office of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., to Honda North America, Inc. - Law Department, with the same responsibilities.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc.’s then affiliate HNA provided legal, audit and risk management services to AHM and other Honda Motor Co., Ltd. affiliates located in the United States. As a Senior Counsel with HNA, I oversaw certain class action litigation matters (financial services, marketing, and product liability) and other complex litigation matters, and provided legal advice with regard to environmental matters, dealer relations, aviation business (Honda Aircraft Co. and Honda Aero), and other special projects.

Engaged in a complex civil litigation and appellate practice focusing on class action defense and general business litigation in state and federal courts. Breadth of subject matter experience included financial services, First Amendment and media, life sciences, securities litigation, breach of contract, ethics, professional responsibility and professional liability, statutory interpretation, and constitutional law. Produced persuasive written work product, and conducted oral advocacy before trial and appellate courts, including four-day bench trial to full defense verdict and award of attorney’s fees. Extensive experience managing junior attorneys and legal staff. Served as chair and co-chair of summer associate program for over five years, as well as member of firm-wide business review committee and litigation associate evaluation committee and chair of college scholarship committee for children of employees.
