Tetra Tech - Oil and Gas (formerly Fransen Engineering) is a multi-discipline consulting engineering firm, specializing in small to medium-sized projects (typically <$20 million value) relating to maintenance and expansion of existing facilities. My work centered on being the primary project manager for a major SAGD client team, consisting of 23 members, growing revenue for $900,000 to $2.1 million year-over-year. I was also a member of the Suncor Energy team that was nominated for a Suncor President's Operational Excellence Award.

QuestAir (now Xebec Corporation) sells Pressure Swing Adsorption systems for upgrading of industrial gas streams or biomethane to hydrogen and pipeline grade natural gas, respectively. The accomplishments listed here started while still a Process/Project Engineer, and became more managerial in nature with the promotion. Was ultimately involved in the delivery of 75% of all commercial orders in QuestAir history through May 2008, with a 95% on-time, on-budget performance record. Over 3 years, my team helped save over $1.2 million.

H2Gen sells small-scale steam methane reformers that produce high-purity (99.999%) hydrogen. It was founded by seven members of the Energy and Environment division of DTI, after the conclusion of the Ford Motor Company program, in order to leverage expertise in the hydrogen economy into a successful commercial venture.Commercial success has been to sell these hydrogen generators into industrial installations, such as metal annealing, semiconductor production, and food processing. H2Gen technology has since been purchased by Air Liquide (steam methane reformer), and CB&I (PSA fast cycle system).My primary role was to investigate different metallurgies for high temperature corrosion characteristics and accelerated lifecycle testing of different catalyst materials that made up the core technology of our company. I also contributed to the design of the control system scenarios that were ultimately used in our process control designs of our systems.

DTI is a consulting engineering firm. Their major non-Defence client was the Ford Motor Company, who wanted to develop an on-board gasoline reformer, to allow the use of gasoline in a fuel cell vehicle as a ‘bridge’ between the gasoline and hydrogen infrastructures. DTI is also a well-respected neutral party as a consultant with the US Department of Energy (DOE) to provide honest assessments of alternative energy technology.DTI developed the notion of distributed hydrogen generation, using the existing natural gas infrastructure to supply hydrogen, through the use of small-scale steam methane reformers. DTI was acquired by Strategic Analysis (SA) in July, 2011.My main role was as fuel cell system integration lead on the Ford Motor Company contract. Upon its conclusion, I assisted in a number of studies, including a SBIR-II study on bipolar plate materials and additional systems analyses that ultimately led to the founding of H2Gen Innovations.
