  • University Of Tennessee Health Science Center
    Graduate Research Assistant
University Of Tennessee Health Science Center Aug 2011 - Sep 2016
    Memphis, Tennessee, Us
The aim of my work was to determine the mechanisms by which the TORC1 pathway regulates histone acetylation, and to examine the impact this has on the binding of chromatin remodelers, as well as how it may contribute to changes in anabolic gene transcription. During my time at UTHSC, I gave a platform presentation at the 2014 Southeast Regional Yeast Meeting (SERYM) and have won a number of awards for scientific poster presentations at student research events. I have authored or co-authored five publications examining the link between TORC1 and chromatin.
  • Dow Chemical
    Research Technician
    Dow Chemical Jul 2010 - Aug 2011
    Midland, Michigan, Us
During my time at Dow Chemical, I worked in High Throughput Reactive Systems and spent my time working on a number of different projects and instruments, many of which implement robotics. A few of those instruments include: Anton Paar Robotic Rheometer for viscosity testing, Texture Analyzer for various types of adhesive tests, Dow Weigh Robot for weighing vials before formulating, Microlab Star Hamilton for formulating solutions and an MTS for tensile testing. While at Dow, I was able to see the project grow from an idea, to an experimental design, to a validation study, and ultimately to a result. Getting to see every step has bolstered my abilities to develop an experiment and interpret the results.
  • Ferris State University
    Biochemistry Lab Assistant
Ferris State University Jan 2010 - May 2010
    Big Rapids, Mi, Us
I worked in the biochemistry lab with 3rd year students. This was designed as a position to assist a replacement professor covering for another on a year long sabbatical. My role grew with the professor having little/no knowledge in the subject he was forced to teach. I was involved in planning, preparing and troubleshooting the lab. Additionally, I had to do a lot of background teaching because the students lacked the previous semester with the normal professor. This included basics of chromatography, protein isolation, and safety protocols.
  • Bridgman Public Library
    Librarian
Bridgman Public Library Aug 2002 - Aug 2008
    Bridgman, Mi, Us
I worked the front desk, helping students to find materials, make printouts, and answer phones. I was also an integral part in planning activities for the library's summer reading programs.
