Assumed this newly created role at the request of the parent Board of Directors to provide independent assurance regarding the integrity of the strategies through which Butterfield's trust division managed its exposures to fiduciary; operational; regulatory; financial crime; investment; tax reporting, and; counterparty risks globally. Built out a risk management framework that brought greater transparency to key risks and control issues identified, ensured their impact was assessed consistently, and enhanced the overall quality and frequency of reporting produced. Chaired a newly formed Group Trust Risk Committee to ensure there was common understanding of these issues across the executive leadership team and consensus as to how they should be addressed. Also championed an initiative to automate a number of key risk management processes through the deployment of unused capabilities of the division’s core technology platform, leading a successful pilot program in Bermuda to provide proof of concept.
