Provide students in the CVM professional curriculum classroom and hands-on instruction for managing honey bees and the veterinarian's role in the treatment of disease and pests.

Conduct public health/toxicological risk assessments for contaminated/hazardous waste sites across North Carolina. Evaluates chemical exposures from hazardous waste sites, determines public health risks and develops recommendations that reduce or eliminate people's exposure to these chemicals. Evaluates all available relevant environmental exposure data, health effects data (toxicological, epidemiological, medical, and health outcome data), and community health concerns representing potential and known human healthexposure pathways at specific project sites.

Maintain colonies of healthy bees for pollination and production of honey. Ensure sufficient food reserves. Make decisions on yard locations and orientation, treatment, splits, honey harvesting and all other beekeeping decisions. Ensure breeding yards are kept clean and at optimal level of production. Diagnose and maintain control over diseases and pests. Identify and determine treatment protocols to address all hive health concerns and in compliance with state and federal laws/regulations related to the bee industry.

Co-investigator in the study of the transmission, pathology and control of Cache Valley virus in the native ovine population of West Texas. Research responsibilities included performing necropsy and histopathology of infected and sentinels animals, serologic testing for virus antibody in sentinel animals, and sampling and identification of the regional mosquito population for virus isolation and culture.

Performed antibody titer testing of sera for Brucella, Leptospira, and Vibrio in domestic animals. Assisted in necropsy, selection of appropriate bacterial and viral serologic tests for individual cases, and preparation of submitted samples for tissue culture and electron microscopic (EM) examination.
