As a planner, my primary goal is to assist communities in achieving their long-term vision for development, conservation/environmental protection, and preservation of community character. I enjoy working with a variety of clientele, from small rural villages to medium-sized cities. With going on 17 years of experience in planning, in addition to background knowledge in architecture, civil engineering and surveying, I have a diverse understanding of issues associated with design, development, and the environment. I utilize various means of communication, including graphic and written, to convey information and build consensus among groups. Working with local government officials as well as members of the community and outside groups and agencies, I help to facilitate discussion, educate those involved on sometimes complex matters and issues, and ultimately help to find the best course of action to help them achieve those goals. I also specialize in geographic information systems (GIS), providing mapping and analysis services, including data creation and maintenance, database management, and map production. As the primary GIS specialist, I also provide IT support and troubleshooting for other GIS users. Using my GIS skills, I have provided custom mapping for clients as well as other disciplines and strive to create professional-quality products. I appreciate and value nature and the environment, both built and natural, and I strive to achieve a balance between physical growth and conservation throughout my career.Specialties: Rural/small town/urban planning, graphic design, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), site design, sustainable design & construction practices, recreational & trail planning, corridor planning and access management, SEQRA, site plan and subdivision review, conservation practices (including land development regulations and policy formation), zoning/local law development, and grant writing.
