I have >15 years experience in analyzing genetic variations for their association with complex disorders, and potential function effects. During my PhD, I gained expertise in various techniques (DNA extraction, PCR/genotyping, molecular biology, statistical analysis), and contributed to large scale genetic studies including the Indian Genome Variation consortium, leading to many publications in esteemed journals including Science and PNAS. I have two patents filed from my PhD work. I received a QUT IHBI Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2008, an NHMRC Peter Doherty Fellowship in 2011, and now hold an NHMRC Career Development Fellowship. I am currently working as an Associate Professor and Group Leader at the newly established Translational Research Institute in Brisbane. I have expanded my research from studying the functional role of Kallikrein gene variants to GWAS and strategic large candidate gene studies involving bioinformatic analysis of data publicly available and/or in our laboratories. I have a specific interest in identifying cancer-specific biological products that are potential clinical biomarkers of risk/progression, and cancer-specific pathways with potential for therapeutic targeting. I am QLD node Co-PI on a collaborative project with the PRACTICAL consortium to replicate prostate cancer GWAS, research which has led to several papers in high-ranking journals - Nat Genet, AJHG, J Hum Genet, CEBP. My undergraduate and post-doctoral training has provided an excellent understanding of biological processes, hands-on knowledge of laboratory techniques, and proven experience in statistical genetics of numerous complex diseases.
