• Identify the best sacrificial polymer-polyacrylonitrile system to tune the pore dimensions and distribution without much loss in mechanical integrity• Establish correlation between the morphology of porous carbon fibers and processing conditions including blend ratio, solvent-nonsolvent systems and stabilization parameters• Evaluate the thermal and mechanical properties of blend fibers using single filament fiber test, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, X-Ray Diffraction• Process and fabricate different geometries of porous carbon fibers by gel spinning of block copolymer in collaboration with team at Virginia Tech to obtain structural batteries
