I went to study Chemistry at Jilin University, China in 1983 when I was 15, and graduated there with Bachelor of Science (1987) and Master of Science (1990). In 1991, I went to Sydney to continue my Ph.D. study at the School of Chemistry, University of Sydney. After then, I was awarded a C.J. Martin training fellowship from National Health and Medical Research Council, traveled to France for two years (1996-1998) and then back to work at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Australia (1998-2000). From 2001 to 2008, I was a Principal Scientist at an Australian Biotech company, Cytopia Ltd. Since 2009, I have co-founded several biotech companies in Australia, China and Hong Kong. My doctoral study was Quantum Chemistry and software development, and my postdoc work was focused on computational biology such as free energy calculation and molecular dynamics simulation. In Cytopia, I was involved in computer-aided drug design and discovery, and software development for the in-house drug discovery platform. From 2011-2016, I co-founded a new biotech company 'Computist Bio-Nanotech', providing services in Quantum Chemistry, Drug Design and Discovery, Protein engineering and Material Design/Nanotechnology. In 2016, I co-founded a drug discovery company Salt and Light Pharmaceuticals to develope the new generation of photosensitisers for Photodynamic Therapy for cancers.Over the years, I have 4 discovery patents, over 40 journal publication with ca. 800 citations, and a monograph book. One of my patents (WO2008AU00339) is the discovery of CYT387 which was sold by YM Bioscience to Gilead Sciences Inc for $510 million in 2012. I also hold several honourable positions in universities of China and Australia, including an adjunct associate professorship at RMIT, Australia and a guest professorship at Sichuan University, China.Outside the square of science and technology, my other interests are the landscaping and property development.
