I analyzed portfolios using factor analysis to better forecast asset performance and quantify risk. By incorporating competitors’ factor data with broad market data with autoregressive statistical models and ML, I demonstrated a more accurate and robust factor set than by mathematical models alone. These models were then implemented on Hadoop based distributed computing systems to process the large amount of financial data in real-time.

Part of the NASAOrbital Debris Program, the DebriSat project aims to model hypervelocity impacts of typical low earth orbit spacecraft. To do so, a mock satellite was impacted in a “soft-catch” chamber to trap and collect all debris fragmets from the impact. The fragments were located and collected from the panels of the chamber and a thorough analysis of the debris size and energy was conducted. For this, I developed procedures for the research group to process the debris, image recognition software, and large data storage systems for the over 126,000 fragments. Over the course of two Summers at SLAC, I completed two separate research projects with the Matter in Extreme Conditions group. In 2018, I designed a Cauchois type spectrometer to increase the resolving power of hard x-ray diagnostics for use in ultra fast laser-matter interaction experiments. In 2016, I developed a set of tests to identify and then mitigate the source of electromagnetic interference during laser-driven high energy density experiments. Designed a non-intrusive diagnostic imaging system for simultaneous electron temperature and density measurements of scrape off layer (SOL) plasmas in TAE’s C2-U experimental reactor. The triple wavelength imaging camera (TWIC) measures the ratio of the intensity of three spectral lines from He beams injected into the SOL. This is based on the fact that electron impact excitation rate coefficients differs for helium singlet and triplet states as a function of the electron temperature and density. Modeled deviations from proposed measurements (real values as opposed to those supplied to the manufacturer) of all 50 non-planar coils and resultant error field at the W7-X stellarator. I used spline interpolation techniques to integrate the sparse measurements with higher resolution computer models of the coils.
