The Integrated Sustainable Urban Transport Systems for Smart Cities (SMART-SUT) project follows a multi-level, multi-actor approach, strengthening actors at national, state and municipal levels. At the national level, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), which is the lead executing agency, is supporting national level frameworks such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS), frameworks for capacity building and training initiatives in Urban Transport etc. At the state level, various campaigns have been designed to make people and institutions aware about the need of sustainable transports. Only few such initiatives are increasing safety for women in public transport and ensure safe travel for school children. Also administrative institutions are empowered and supported in optimising structures and capacities for the strategic management of local urban transport development. At the local level, the project supports municipalities and city transport agencies to implement integrated sustainable projects for urban transport.In the partner cities such as Kochi, Bhubaneswar and Coimbatore, the GFA consulting GmbH-World resource institute India- Wuppertal Institut consortium supports the implementation of the project at local level over the entire term of the project

Since February 2017:Many innovative solutions for sustainable urban development exist at local level, for example in energy efficiency, mobility or municipal services, although they are frequently not widely known. Often, there is a lack of systematic access to these practice-oriented solutions. Against this background, Connective Cities, the International Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development promotes the exchange of municipal expertise and mediates between supply of and demand for practical experience as well as between urban practitioners. For cities are increasingly gaining importance internationally, and urban actors the world over are facing comparable issues in urban development. Although local solutions are required, they are increasingly becoming globally relevant. The pressing challenges posed by world-wide urbanisation call for efficient and innovative solutions, especially in the areas of Good Urban Governance, Integrated Urban Development, Local Economic Development and Municipal Services – our four focal thematic areas. Since July 2016:The C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) is a joint project by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) and the German BMZ, with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH working together. The Facility supports C40 cities in developing and emerging countries to prepare and deliver sustainable, low carbon and climate adaptation projects. The ultimate objective of the CFF is to reduce GHG emissions and increase resilience in cities by mobilising financing for city-level climate change action. The Facility will act as an intermediary for cities and potential financiers, helping to develop bankable investment proposals.
