With a robust background in professional teaching experience, I am confident in my ability tocontribute effectively to your institution.My journey in education began over two decades ago, where I honed my skills teaching several subjects as a state-waivered generalist at Truman High School, an experimental program for at-risk youth funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since then, I have had the privilege of working in diverse educational settings across multiple countries, including Mexico where I taught Model United Nations and in Guatemala where I first started teaching AP Human Geography with passing rates from 75% to 91% in my three years there.My current home is at IDEA Carver College Prep High School in San Antonio, Texas where I have been highly successful in teaching AP Human Geography as well one year of U.S. history in a very challenging AP-For-All setting to a diverse student population. In my 2nd year in the district, I took on multiple pedagogy coaching positions as I took on the roles of course leader for the district as well as content lead for my school. During my tenure at IDEA Carver, I have had the opportunity to spearhead various initiatives aimed at elevating the quality of education provided to our students. My work over the last seven years has helped IDEA Carver become a nationally ranked high school in both the US News & World Report and the Jay Matthews Challenge Index. Notably, I played a pivotal role in creating and implementing AP-For-All Human Geography and AP-For-All U.S. History programs, as well as coaching other teachers on best practices significantly impacting our school's ranking and student achievements.My student’s AP-For-All scores have been top in the region for five out of the last six years and last year I was #1 in all IDEA Public Schools with scores over 3x higher than the district median. In recent years, I havereceived a number of district and campus-based awards including Master Teacher, Distinguished MasterTeacher, the “Perfection”, “Integrity”, and “Most Structured” Awards as well as Teacher-of-the-Year which further attest to my dedication and effectiveness in the classroom.
