This was my second stint working for a big corporation where I found my bearings. More than innovation the stress is upon consistency between the different teams. Even small issues were important because many people use the same features day in and day out. I learnt a lot about formal User Interviews, Usability testings, to get approval under Section 307. It was important to be thorough and to predict all kinds of scenarios which a developer could face, and state guidelines for such cases. This was my first experience working for a big company. Initially I was overwhelmed with all the different processes. There seemed to be process for seemingly small things like getting stapler pins, to applying for leaves, and so on. And many of them ran on internal sites with really bad user experience. There were a few highlights, one time when I designed a Task based interaction model, instead of the usual Object based models.

I was one of the initiators of India's first free PDF magazine, called Aahsome. The idea was to invite creative content from readers based on a pre declared theme. This was my first experience with raw user research. It was a mobile debit network, enabling users to conduct transactions and perform banking functions from their handsets using text messaging. It had already been launched in Africa, and we had to find the changes to be done for the indian context. I also handled the web page design and the applet design.

Uzanto was the company behind Slideshare, which was acquired by Linkedin. My role here was that of Interaction Developer. This involved designing the interfaces along with coding them in production quality HTML + CSS. I had coded in HTML before, but surrounded by geeks for the first time, I realized the importance of standards compliant code, and more importantly beautiful code. There was data from analytics and customer feedback which we used to iterate and tweak features, or create new ones.

Worked on these:1) A interactive mulitmedia educational CD for kindergarten kids. The challenges in this project where that the kids where new to computers and hence the interface design had to be completely intuitive. Had to research a lot about child interface design.2) A business resource management for a RFID manufacturer. It was done using actionscript. The interface was such that a manager could create a process on an interface. I joined this company to hone my visual designing skills. Worked for both digital and print jobs. We handled the designing of websites which were released by Yash Raj films. During my stay there worked on sites for Mangal Pandey, Salaam Namaste and Neal and Nikki. I also got my first experience writing actionscript here.
