I taught Design Thinking and Communication, an exciting project-based course in which first year engineering students work with real-life clients to solve a design problem. Students are challenged to integrate design skills, communication skills, and project management and teamwork skills. Each section is co-taught by an engineering instructor and a communication instructor; my role was the latter. I was also a writing mentor for Master of Project Management students completing their capstone report required for graduation.

H.e.a.r. Chicago Talk is a social and solution-oriented forum featuring presentations on topics related related to teaching and learning of all kinds. Its goal is to foster discussion and connections among resourceful folks in a variety of disciplines. The Great Books Foundation's unique programs strengthen students' capacity for critical thinking, reading, and writing through in-depth discussions about literature. Great Books programs challenge and support students and teachers alike; teachers report that the program transforms their classroom culture into one of respectful, inquiry-based listening and speaking. I directed the development of this nationwide discussion-based reading and critical thinking program. As the editorial director of the Great Books Foundation, I envisioned and successfully implemented profound changes in our materials, improving access, usability, and engagement for teachers and students.

The Great Books Foundation is an independent, nonprofit educational organization with a mission to promote the value of reading and informed discussion for people of all ages. The Foundation offers workshops in Shared Inquiry discussion and publishes collections of classic and modern texts for both children and adults.I managed the development of our K-12 reading and critical-thinking programs, including teacher materials, writing components, and assessments. These programs are used in schools and libraries across the country.

I developed project plans for and supervised the development of standards-aligned, state-specific ELA assessment-item banks for grades 2-12. I wrote content as well as edited the work of a number of freelance writers. Because Edusoft was a small start-up at the time, I had the opportunity to contribute significantly to the growth and development of my department and the company.
