During my years at the University of British Columbia, the following are my favorite courses that have directly resulted in me seeking opportunities in similar fields: Kinetic Reactor Design, Thermodynamics, Unit Operations (Heterogenous Separations), ASPEN Simulations, Material Chemistry.Through this degree, I have developed valuable technical skills as well as soft skills such as the importance of attention to detail, the need for organized and smart work, detailed researching skills, the skill to perfect presentations and the importance of networking.

During this work term, the following tasks were completed :• Prepared Technology Selection client presentation after completion of Study Basis on Carbon Capture Technologies and Air Separation Units• Drafted Block Flow Diagrams, and Process Flow Diagrams and incorporated client comments in the P&IDs for suggested cases in the Select Phase of the Project• Extracted and verified Heat and Mass Balances for ongoing projects to ensure their accuracy from ASPEN simulation and created excel databases for the balances across multiple interlinked projects• Used the Heat and Mass Balance, along with design capacity to conduct adequacy reports for sour water stripper systems, sulphur recovery units, other utilities, and air separation units. The adequacy reports were needed to ensure that existing systems were capable to handle project modifications to acid gas recovery and sulphur recovery units• Prepared and Presented an informational analysis on the various configurations of Sulphur Recovery units used across the world along with their recovery%.

Kaarnesh was a recipient of Excellence Award for the below contributions madeThe following tasks were carried out:• Improved the Manufacturing Bill of Materials and reduced waste in 30+ manufacturing processes for the upcoming year to estimate a total combined saving of $1 Million on 3 product lines• Carried out part qualification using a microscope and completed a statistical analysis using capability metrics (ppk, cpk) for Audi Hydrogen Division to ensure the cross sections of the parts were within required tolerances.• Procured 1000+ parts and assembled the vacuum-enabled assembly fixture for Membrane Electrode Assembly post working with the designers to fulfill the engineer’s requirements

The following tasks were carried out:• Compression molded samples then conducted material failure analysis using INSTRON and recommended possible optimization ideas using FTIR spectroscopy tests.• Analyzed data between client’s product and competitor’s product for the last 5 years to provide a comparative statistical analysis • Prepared required company blends of polymers, disassembled, and operated twin-screw extruder (Brabender Plasticorder)

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

During the internship at Worley Inc. I had performed the following activities • Developed an Excel tool for sizing, optimizing and cost estimating molecular sieve dehydration unit which is now uploaded in the Worley resources page for reference • Collated input data for economic calculation, performed sensitivity analysis in the economic model using Excel• Drafted technical reports on equipment mechanism and efficiency for clients• Prepared multiple technical / management presentations• Supported in conceptual selection and design toward 2 optimization studies for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) • Performed equipment adequacy check and created equipment lists for heat exchangers, pumps, vessels and flanges in various parts of ADNOC offshore oil and gas plant• Modified and incorporated client comments in the P&IDs • Created line lists and conducted a detailed check of P&IDs prior to it being approved as “Issued for Construction”• Conducted vendor reviews to ensure data and orientation for various process equipment are according to the specifications requested by the company • Worked with Aspen Hysys to simulate input conditions to get desired outputs for turbines, compressors, etc. on a regular basis
