I undertook my social internship at Aarushi Homes, Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), a shelter home for abandoned or orphaned children from 26th April 2024 to 26th June 2024. My work focused on identifying operational issues and managerial challenges, exploring potential solutions, arriving at acceptable & implementable options & driving specific actions to raise awareness about SBT.The project was planned in 4 broad phases each spanning two weeks:- • Phase 1: Information Collection & Data Analysis • Phase 2: Hypothesis Formation & Issues Identification • Phase 3: Building Potential Solutions & Develop Action Plan • Phase 4: Implement recommended actions and wrap up During the first phase of my internship, I focused on building a rapport with the students through training them in different dance forms and helping them with routine studies. I also learnt about the NGO's management practices through staff interviews and followed it up with SWOT and GAP analysis.It specifically led me to a few opportunity areas as listed below to focus on during the project:• Managerial, Operational & Governance Challenges o Misuse of resources o Inefficient needs gathering o Improper fumigation practices o Focus on ethical principles o Need to strengthen Core Competencies o Shortage of Funds • Public Policy challenges • Lack of exposure to STEM Areas • Building Marketing Content o Poster Making o Coffee Table BookI proposed the solutions for each of the challenges and worked on an implementation plan with the managing team.
