Power Systems Engineer Intern
I was a Power Systems Engineer for the summer, performing Arc Flash studies/analysis during field walks to different buildings here at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The work I did was to prevent arc flashes from happening by examining equipment, making sure the electrical systems I visited were intact, and doing some calculations to get the value of an arc flash's incident energy to keep it as low as possible. I also worked with a computer program called SKM PowerTools to map out electrical systems of buildings and the program also helps with calculating the incident energy of the equipment I was working with along with other things we might want to be concerned about.
Instructor
When I worked with Play-Well, I was an instructor for children between the ages of 5 and 11. My job (although it never felt like a "job") was to teach them engineering basics using Lego as a medium. I would follow a curriculum and build small to big projects for them and present the project to them. In this presentation I would disassemble then reassemble the build all while talking about the history, engineering topics, and associated scenarios we can use to understand the overall idea of the project more.
Tutor/Peer Mentor
While I was a Tutor/Peer Mentor for the Mathematical Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program, I tutored a various amount of subjects. Subjects including, but not limited to: Calculus (I, II, and III), General Chemistry I, and Phyics (Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism). The Peer Mentor side of things came easy and allowed me to be my naturally supportive and optimistic self. I motivated students to get their work done and always consoled students who were discouraged about their academics.
