As a doctoral student, my research focused on cone photoreceptors and neural connectivity in humans and non-human primates. I was supervised and mentored by Dr. Lawrence Sincich. In addition to my research pursuits, I also maintain a keen interest in developing my skills as an educator. To this end, I served as a teaching assistant for several courses, and pursued multiple teaching certificates through the Center for Integrated Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) at UAB.

Responsibilities included: observing student engagement, introducing novel assessments, creating grading rubrics. Began teaching-as-research project centering on student knowledge retention after reading current scientific literature.

Coaching volleyball is one of my favorite things to do! In addition to teaching volleyball-related skills, I also must manage the team of 10-12 girls, their parents, and an assistant coach. I have found this job to be an excellent source of leadership and communication skills--both of which are extremely useful in my professional career.

After taking this course in the Fall of 2010, I was given the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant for its repeat offering the following Spring. As a teaching assistant, I was available for student questions and instructor needs--namely grading and developing exams and online assignments. I also lectured on two topics: the role of religion in the current scientific community and the influence of religion within the Protestant Reformation. Concurrently, I embarked on program of independent study under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Klepfer. My research focused on using modern sexual harassment theory to inform a historical event--the religious persecution and subsequent execution of Anne Askew in 1546.

I was employed as a technician to prepare solutions and laboratory assignments for the General Chemistry labs at the University of Tampa.

In this capacity I was available for student questions and instructor needs for both the General Chemistry II lecture course and the accompanying laboratory course.
