⁍ Created and still maintain Sass MQ, a @media query abstraction that enables developers and designers to build responsive websites more easily. It is open source, and now used by many companies, including Gov.UK, BBC, and the Financial Times (https://github.com/sass-mq/sass-mq)⁍ Contributed to the continuous improvement of the CSS/HTML architecture of the new Guardian responsive website and built user interface modules usable across multiple products⁍ Became the go-to expert for all things CSS and Sass inside the company⁍ Focused mostly on the homepage, section pages, and the navigation, within an extremely fast-paced environment (>5 deployments to production per day), with direct user feedback⁍ Rolled out performance improvements: optimized asset inlining process and helped gather a large set of fonts heavily optimized each device type by getting in touch directly with the foundry (Commercial Type). Thanks to this work, the WOFF 2, smaller font format was deployed live for the first time at a large media organization, cutting 200ms (25%) off of the page rendering delay. This was part of a team effort to keep the time-to-render below 1000ms⁍ Helped introduce a technological breakthrough in responsive layout, implementing the "container model" designed at the Guardian in collaboration with iA (http://next.theguardian.com/blog/container-model-blended-content/). Thanks to my work, theguardian.com was the first media organization to use CSS flexbox on their entire website, in a completely cross-browser and responsive way⁍ Improved the design process: helped bridge the gap between designers and developers by making the code syntax closer to the language used by designers⁍ Initiated Guss (GUardian Style Sheets), the UI foundation for all digital products using HTML and CSS at the Guardian until 2017.
