The project focuses on developing novel biomaterials to better treat inflammatory diseases in the digestive system, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and liver fibrosis in research and translational settings. Primary responsibilities include polymer synthesis and characterization, formulation of controlled release dosage forms, in vitro characterization of implantable systems (e.g., HPLC, zeta-sizing, etc.), and preclinical evaluation of the systems in relevant small and large animal models (efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and toxicity studies).
