I am currently a analyst in Corporate and International Tax Division, working on policies related to international tax (including tax treaties).

I worked as a field officer for the 2016 Census, with the task of reminding and encouraging households to successfully complete their census forms.Responsibilities:- communicating with local residents about the importance of the census;- addressing public concerns about their privacy and data security;- following strict data management and records-keeping procedures

The Student Relations Network (SRN) is a UQ initiative designed to support first year students and maximise student retention rates by connecting them with current students in similar degrees and providing them opportunities to feel a part of the UQ community. This was a paid role. Highlights:- supporting students at different stages of their first year through structured phone-check ins, and providing advice based on my own experiences;- managing confidential student data using Microsoft Access databases;- completing quality control for 500+ case notes created by the SRN crew (selected for this role based upon the standard of my note-taking during the 2015 call-out period);- communicating information relevant to students in my faculty to other SRN crew and supervisors

My research focused on the Bali Process, an Asia-Pacific based forum designed to facilitate regional cooperation on migrant smuggling and human trafficking, and Australia's engagment with this institution. Project: Delivering Public Good through Urban Water Management: Governance and PracticeI was awarded a competitive Winter Research Scholarship to work on this project, investigating the role of Australian urban water utilities in promoting sustainable urban water management and delivering additional public benefits beyond water supply, drainage and water treatment. In particular, I investigated how specific regulatory requirements influence decision-making about public benefits within these utilities. Highlights:- completing a literature review on urban water utility regulation in Australia - developing a comprehensive model of legislation and regulations related to water corporations, environmental protection, water supply and quality, and financial obligations across three Australian states- interviewing key stakeholders from both water utilities and government departments

I was an intern in the Indian Ocean Territories Branch, which has responsibility for policy development for Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Responsibilities:- writing correspondence, including Ministerial briefs, correspondence and Question Time and Senate Estimates briefings;- supporting the Minister’s visit to the Indian Ocean Territories, including coordinating briefing documents within the Indian Ocean Territories Branch, confirming the itinerary, and developing event briefs;- conducting research into a range of issues including health services delivery, economic development and ecotourism;- overseeing the branch's correspondence management system, including delegating correspondence and ensuring accurate records management;- developing project management spreadsheets to support Departmental grants programs;- liaising with other departments and agencies on cross-portfolio issues

I worked with PwC to support the Department of Human Services (DHS) with its Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation Programme (WPIT). This project involves updating the current DHS IT system to ensure it is more responsive to ongoing policy developments and changing customer needs. I was involved in designing a strategy to help PwC better understand the needs of students who receive welfare payments. Skills developed:- design thinking;- focus group design;- survey design;- data presentation

In Semester 2 2015, I completed a research internship with the Hon Dr Steven Miles (Minister for the Environment and Heritage Protection, and Minister for National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef), as part of my Bachelor of Arts. My project investigated how Queensland could pursue more sustainable management of national parks, through a case study of protected area management in Tasmania. Skills developed:- policy analysis - report writing

Oaktree is Australia's largest youth-run organisation, building a movement to end extreme poverty. Our signature campaign, Live Below the Line, challenges participants to live on $2 of food/day for 5 days, and has successfully raised over $7.5 million for education projects across the Asia-Pacific. I volunteered at Oaktree for two years across various campaigns, with a focus on event management, campaign logistics, and political coordination and training.Highlights: - managing all internal (Queensland) campaign events for Live Below the Line (2015). Queensland volunteers raised the most money of any state volunteer team; - managing accommodation, transport, food, and community engagement activities for 50 Queensland Community Leaders on the End Poverty Roadtrip (2014);- organising a public forum on Australian foreign aid and development policy, attended by three federal election candidates (2013)Other responsibilities included:- facilitating seminars for high school students on the relationship between climate change and extreme poverty;- facilitating training on foreign aid and development policy and Australian politics for Community Leaders;- overseeing participants' safety and welfare during campaign events;- supporting Oaktree's ongoing fundraising through regular giving phone calls to potential donors;- recruiting participants to attend Oaktree campaigns and events;

Project: Australian Primary Industries Transforming to a Changing ClimateAs part of this project, I was involved in the data analysis and presentation stages of a longitudinal study. This study investigated the factors which influenced businesses within Australia's primary industries' decision to adapt their processes in response to the threat of climate change. Highlights:- completing a literature review on the concept of a 'social licence to operate' in the agricultural sector- analysing 100+ qualitative interviews conducted with industry, government and community representatives in various agricultural industries- contributing to a future journal article focused on how 'success' is understood by industry members undergoing adaptation to climate change

I was awarded a competitive Summer Research Scholarship to work on this project. My research focused on the portrayal of single mothers in Australian media from the 1980s-2000s, and how and why these changed over time. Highlights: - completing a literature review; - collecting and transcribing 300+ media samples related to single mothers, using relevant media databases; - analysis data using the qualitative data software N'Vivo (self-taught)
