As an intern working with WMU-Cooley and Restore ministries, I have obtained many valuable skills that pertain to being a case manager. Motivated by my passion to help and interest in legal advocacy, I have learned how to organize files, file legal documents such as FOIA request and conduct research into client cases using Lexis Nexis and other legal databases as well as have developed a proficiency in professional communication. While interning at Restore ministries I acted as a case manager to ex-convicts and helped them gain independence while re-entering into society. It was required for me to help them obtain bank accounts, drive them to interviews, and complete job applications. Other useful skills I have obtained were through working with The Ark Catholic Charities which allowed me to interact with at risk youth and address their direct needs coming off the streets. I furthered my experience with diverse groups through my volunteer experiences at W.I.R.E sports based program as a mentor to lower income youth. These internship and volunteer opportunities have helped develop my ability to work with adults and children of all populations. These skills will be very valuable working as a case manager because of my experiences working on both a legal and social perspective working with both adults and youth. I later went on to work as Case Manager in 2018 at Child and Family Charities as a foster care worker. And shortly after being hired I was then hired at the State of Michigan. I have currently been employed by the State of Michigan as a foster care for 3 years and 5 months. During this time, I have gained experience with managing a case load of up to 16 cases. I currently prepare quarterly reports, do filing, and I have court room experience.
