I love to learn new things, and figure out how stuff works together, and I love condensing a wide array of information into a single idea. I taught myself to code by reverse engineering an existing project, and expanding it into a suite of tools I needed to more efficiently do my job. At the Broad Institute I went from implementing bug fixes and minor features to implementing microservices with legacy codebases and designing secure data access systems. I also love to sew! I consider it a different type of engineering that actually requires similar problem solving skills. Much like in software, I iterate on a design first, thinking about my goals for the finished garment. I often create a mockup to prove out my ideas, then focus on constructing a good base for the garment that I can add details and embellishments to. I always find it easier to create a high-quality final product if I have a clear vision and strong construction to build off of.
