Whilst I have been a Lifeguard at Coral Reef, I have learned new skills and built upon many skills that I have. One way this has happened is broadening that way that I am able to commmunicate with others, especially when it may not be possible to hear the person you want to talk to. This happens regularly at Coral Reef due to all of the water features that go off during the day, leading to visual ways to communicate and signalling using our whistles to get the attention of customers if needed, and the use of radio communications to effectively communicate with other lifeguards if needed.As a lifeguard, you are entrusted by swimmers and colleagues to respond effectively to any issues in the pool. This may come from needing to perform a rescue, or to having to treat a customer who has picked up an injury. During my time as a lifeguard, I have made a large number of rescues within the pool, which leads to a positive view of the staff as we are seen to take action quicklly and effectively. I have also treated multiple customers who have injured themselves, helping to show the duty of care that we have towards customers.

During my time as a General Assistant, I had to ensure that all areas of the building were kept at the highest standard possible. This was done by routinely cleaning high-use areas, such as the toilets and changing rooms. I was also required to help and advise customers with any issues and queries they may have, such as locating areas of the building or questions about the sessions. On occasions, I had to help the lifeguards by doing some of the tasks that they would normally do on their rotations, such as handing out rafts to customers, ensuring people are being safe when going down the flumes, and monitoring the spa that was in the building.I also had to assist by ensuring that the water was meeting the standards required. This was done by doing a set of tests with water collected from 4 different areas of the pool every 2 hours, and informing my Duty Manager or Team Leader if anything seemed out of the ordinary.

During my time in this role, I had to routinely serve customers as efficiently as possible, prepare trays of food for cooking and routine cleaning. This then meant that I was able to gain large amounts of experience in a range of different areas, including organisation and customer service. I also gained experience there as I was working in an environment that is very fast paced, meaning that it is important to got things correct on the first try. This was especially important during the hours that I worked, as I was working during breakfast and lunch times, meaning that we had large rushes that often came unannounced. this required me to be able to listen to a customer's order as they said it, and ensure that they got everything that they requested.
