Working under University of Washington PhD candidate Chris Mantegna, the summer was spent at Friday Harbor Labs working on-site at Yellow Island to complete biodiversity counts and intertidal monitoring of primarily invertebrate species. EDNA was collected from various sites, DNA isolated, and analyzed in comparison with the sampling to collect both quantitative and qualitative data across the space, time, and history of Yellow Island.

● Assist in the preparation and execution of weekly field labs for an undergraduate ecology course● Instruct groups of 30 students in field data collection and analysis● Provide instruction on ecological concepts of field techniques and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies

One of twenty scholars selected from across the nation, I participate in an intensive two-year program focusing on the intersection of both conservation biology and bicultural awareness. This experience includes a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to experimental; forestry, environmental sampling, wildlife biology, and cultural relations. The curriculum leads interns across the state of Washington to emphasize the power connection to place and land can hold, and how to make informed and holistic environmental decisions and actions.
