Junior Superintendent:As a Junior Superintendent, I had a very responsible and liable role in the company. I had many different tasks and responsibilities to complete on a daily basis.I would arrive 30 minutes before my shift in order to receive a proper “handover” from my Senior Superintendents, Operations Manager and the rest of my management team in order for me to be put in the picture for each shift and conduct my shift accordingly. I would then do the same at the end of my shift in order for the superintendent that was coming onto their shift would have the same and could understand the ongoing as well as upcoming operations and conduct their shift in the correctly.While I was in the position of Junior Superintendent I obtained my PDP, which allows me to transport staff, people and/or goods. I also obtained my First Aid Level 1 course.My role as a Superintendent entailed:• Conducting shift changes.• Planning of labour daily. • Booking daily labour.• Transporting labour/staff to and from their sites/operations.• Manage vessels and site operations.• Ensuring company OHSA standards are being adhered to.• Assisting in capturing information.• Checking and distributing of operational documents (all Final Documents)timeously and accurately to all clientele, agents and the rest of mymanagement team/directors.• Preparation of vessel files as well as stationery for each vessel and eachdifferentiating operation.• Checking on all sites and operations• Ensuring that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and requirementswere met and everything was in order.• Filling in on vessels as a supervisor when we were short staffed due tovessels commencing operations unexpectedly and while filling in as a supervisor I would still conduct my duties as a Superintendent.

Supervisor:As a supervisor, my job entailed many different responsibilities, such as:• Setting up my team on site and making sure they were fully aware of the operation that they were working and not only understood the requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) but followed them too. I captured all the cargo that was being dispatched/received on the respective vessels, I had to do the Daily Cargo Work Reports (DCWR) for the clients and agents, I had to take progressive operational photos throughout, I had to answer to clients with regards to anything they wanted to know about their operation, keep them updated with the ongoing operation and I had to send frequent tonnage updates (4 hourly and hourly). I had to do the final documents which included: • Running Stats• Productivity Stats• Progressive Stats• Discharge Report• Discharge/Load summary.All of the above would then be emailed out to clients and agents.As a supervisor, I worked the following commodities/cargoes (in both dispatch and receiving):• Wheat• Ferro chrome• Chrome• Coal• Metcoke• Steel coils• Wood pulp• Cement• FertilizerI was in the supervisor position for 3 months, thereafter I was promoted to Junior Superintendent.
